Okay, so my landlord is a total pain. We signed a year lease to rent a property and our lease is up on July 31st. We payed (when we first moved it) a security deposit which is the same amount as the rent. We explained to him we would be moving out in July and asked if we could move a few weeks earlier than expected b/c my bday is on the first of August and I don't want to move on my bday.
Throughout the year of us living here, my hubby has fixed some major problems with the house (by himself) including a huge plumbing problem that occured. We live next to a business where the people have many dump trucks and back hoes (which the landlord FAILED to mention before we moved it) Now, we looked for houses to move to and found one and fell in love with it. The thing is, we have to move on June 1st instead of July. We told the landlord he could keep our deposit because of the situation and we are leaving earlier.
THE PROBLEM IS.. the landlord wants to charge us another month's rent (July) even though someone will be renting here, and we will be gone. Is that fair? What would you do?

we had the same kind of problem and its so annoying especially when u havent asked the landlord for anything (or he doesnt help you out when you do). i ended up asking if i could pay half my months rent and he took the other half out my deposit, that way i felt that at least i was geting something back.
if you just move out what can he do about it??? he wont know where you are and its not like you still owe him money, why should you pay for a moths rent when
1) your not gonna be there
2) you told him in advance what was happening.
i personally (if i didnt mind him keeping the deposit) would just leave, why do him a favour when he doesnt help you
