With Cuba so close to the USA do you think that after Castro dies the USA will try and make Cuba one of their states and at the very least lift the trade sanctions? Will Americans be able to buy a decent cigar? What will happen to the relationship between Cuba and the USA when Fidel Castro dies?

This is a very hard topic. Yo should take into account lot and lots of complicated things that could have an influence on this. But I think if we all work for that, relationships could be again as they were before Castro: peaceful and helpful for both folks. Some of the factors could be: the monetary and political influence of the Cubans of Florida, the perception of cubans by the american people, the way democracy is restaured in Cuba...

How can you consider the US and Cuba close? You must mean geographically, which means nothing of statedom.
Planes in the US do not fly to Cuba. We cannot buy Cuban products. They cannot sell us their products. IMmigration/emmigration between our countries is not allowed. The regime there hates us, as we have them.

Why isn't Puerto Rico a state yet then? And why would we want Cuba as a state, it is very poor and wouldn't offer very much to the United States.

Cuba is Cuba for so many years and the people are not starving and they like their system. Why should they want to change? To think they want to be a state of the US is weird. They run a whole different system and it is working. Castros brother probably will take over. Let them be happy! The Dominican Republic is not a state of the US not either.
Different countries have different ways. Let them have their way and be happy.

First, let me say that I am American and really hate it when people say they hate my country. Now, my husband is Cuban and fled the island at the age of 19. I can say the people in Cuba do NOT like their system and there are many that ARE starving. You can not just go on national news, etc and say you hate Fidel or his Communistic system. There are very harsh ramifications for that. The USA does not need to make it a state, but the fact that there needs to be change, is abundantly clear. My husband's entire family is stillon the island, so I know for a fact that they are not happy.
