Have any women here had ablasion (cauterizing the uterus?)

My gyno recommended I undergo a procedure called ablasion to help me stop bleeding so badly. I went through testing last week, both with bloodwork and ultrasounds, to determine what the cause is of my heavily bleeding, whether it be hormonal or the result of cysts or fibroids. He said that ablasion is effective to stop the bleeding permanently, and while he's there he'll tie my tubes so I don't have to worry about pregnancy or bleeding anymore.
Have any women here had this done? What could I expect if I have this procedure? What is the amount of pain afterward, the recovery time, etc?

I had this done about two years ago and for me, it's the best decision I ever made. I admit that it was painful afterwards. After coming home from the hospital, I was in quite a bit of pain, even with the pain meds, so I slept most of the day. But by the second day, I was feeling much better and it just felt like a little cramping. By the third day, I was fine.
I have a tiny bit of spotting each month, but not even enough to wear anything. It is so great not to have periods every month!
I was 42 when I had it done. I wish I would have had it done sooner!

It really does sound wonderful to not have to bleed anymore. I'm done having kids and I really don't need those organs for anything. It'd be nice if more women had an option to do this. I don't think it's as bad as having a hysterectomy and I wouldn't have to go on hormones, but it would serve the same purpose. I've been threatening to rip out my own uterus for years, so this would be a nice change. lol.
