I have known many people fall into depression and even have to take anti depressant pills to cope up. Well, i think all of us go through some situations too hard for us to handle. If we would have the emotional strength to prepare for such, and the support of others, of course, maybe we dont need to take anything. What do you think?

I have a chronic illness that certainly causes depression. One gets depressed when one is in pain all the time or tired all the time or both. But why is this happening? It is not because of difficult times. The theory that fibromyalgia is an offshoot of mononeucleosis is very real to me. These are things beyond my control. These are a result of infection and body chemical make-up. Medication is needed when the chemicals in your brain are not working, or not in abundance. Hormones, serotonin, and other chemicals cannot be cured by having someone praise you and love you and dump a bunch of cash on you. If only it were that easy.
Yes, there is depression that is caused by the struggles in life and in that case counselling would be in order, a change of life and possibly medication. We are not robots, our bodies do not all function the same way, nor do our brains. If they need help we have to find the best help we can, and sometimes even that is not enough.

There are many chemicals in the brain that have to deal with depression and no amount of support from others will help. Medication is needed to combat the depression as well as psychotherapy. Many people believe that medication is not needed and then get sicker as the years go by.
