My child yells at me!!!!

It is primarily the job of the father to teach respect for the mother to kids. The best way for a father to do this, is to show respect to her himself. Other than that, if your child yells at you, you don't put up with it. Time outs, taking things away, not buying things, even "going to bed without supper"... Believe me, missing a meal won't kill them, but it might just save them in the future.

Childrens are very concious. They will not yell without reason. It is parents duty to find out the reason for yelling and convince the child. If we understand the child, it will reciprocate properly.

I don't agree with either of the other 2 posts - 1 says there has to be a reason which isn't true & the other thinks you're neglecting your child which i don't think is the case either. You didn't say how old your child was, this is kind of important coz yelling at a parent can be from anger or frustration if the child is older but my daughter is not yet 1, yet she loves to yell - she'll yell at her toys before she plays with them, she yells with excitement when her favourite shows come on TV & to be honest, i think another reason she does it is because she likes the sound of her own voice!!! She even yells for the fun of it & then laughs - she likes to amuse herself! You need to give an example of when yout child yells & if it's directed at you or just in general. You also need to say how old your child is because my 1 yr old yells for the fun of it & because she can!

I am also a 1st time mother of 2 they are almost 9 and almost 8, my 9 year old yells at me he gets smacked in the mouth and told that I will not allow him to talk to me that way. My mother was the same way when I was growing up and when I was a kid I thought she was so mean for hitting me,cause my mom did not spank but in the long run it taught me alot. My children know there are just certain things you don't do to your parents and me taking the role of both, I will be even harder. I know at 4 years old you can forgive some of it but you should try the time out thing or just ask her why she is yelling at you, let her know that you do not like it and you wish she would stop.
