Recently my husband's friend bought a boxer puppy. The day after he took the puppy home it devloped kennel cough and 2 days later had pnemonia. He was freaking out because the dog had cost him $1800 which he financed(!) and he would still have to pay it if the dog passed away. Luckily the puppy is fine now, everything was caught soon quick enough. But would you ever actually take out a loan to buy a pet? I mean, I understand he had papers and stuff, but he's not planning on showing it or breeding him. Any pets I have ever had either found me or came from a shelter. Would you ever finance a pet?

Yes, I would finance a pet if I wanted it enough. However, I prefere to get them from the shelters. There are so many unwanted abused animals out there. Second off, you could have taken the people to court if you lost your dog so soon. Good luck sugar, hope your dog is okay now.

Oh, it's not my dog! But he is back to perfect health now, thank you! If I were going to buy a pet I would definately go to a shelter or pound.

This reminds me of the time my wife and I were in a pet store and they guy working there told us a dog we wanted cost $850. I thought he had said it was $8.50, which was not so bad. Then he said he could check on financing it and I though, taking out a loan for a dog is crazy when I can get one for free or cheap at a pund. I left and never regreted it. We now have a dog we found running around our old condo complex. We tried looking for her owner but no luck. She is the best dog and she only cost us some vet bills.

I would have left too. I found my cat by my grandfather's home, and I love her. And in the 6 years I've had her I don't think I've spent $850 on her let alone $1800!

It is strange. I never heard about the finance companies that finaces pets. $1800.00 is too much for a boxer, I think it includes interest also.

I think that he finaced it through the store he bought it from somehow. I'm not really sure, but he's getting a bill every month.
