are ebooks a good way to make money???

I've been doing some research on thei nternet into this whole ebook craze and I've come to realise that many people are selling ebooks and making an income from them, or so I'm led to believe. But really, are they that good a way of making money? And would it be worthwhile writing your own one and getting it published? I know it sounds like an arduous task for someone who doesn't like to write, but for me, writing an ebook seems to flow quite easily. I've started one and it's very hard to put it down, and I'm having fun with it. I just wanted to know how easy it would be for me to sell it as I think the content is pretty good and informative.
