These past few days, I've noticed the mosquitoes are attacking again. They've made me realize - yes, the rainy season is fast approaching the Philippines. Now, we need to start checking places where mosquitoes could lay their eggs. Whew!!!
I really hate mosquito bites as they are itchy and irritating. I normally use anti-itch medicines and efficascent oil whenever a mosquito 'punctures' me.. I sometimes use mosquito coils to prevent them from coming but I only end up sneezing because of the smoke it brings.
How about you? What do you do to avoid mosquito bites?
Please share so you could help me and even more people out there...
Thanks.

Your absolutely right rainy seasons is now approaching, and as a preparation for it. We clean our inviroment here and put away pails and tires that usually the mosquito bares there eggs. And also we put some mosquito repellant such as lotions we don't used mosquito coil coz it's harmful to our health.

We just keep our door closed and make sure that there are no holes in the window or door screens. My parents are very good in keeping the mosquito at bay. They are so vigilant and make sure that we don't have mosquito inside our house which is also a rare occurrence no matter the season.

It's really good that you have screens in your house. I have been requesting my mother that we put screens to avoid mosquitoes from coming but she said it's a bit difficult.
I completely understood her because our house have hard grills on the windows. I guess the design of our house is anti burglar but is not so anti mosquito.. LOL

We don't get mosquitoes of any size in Britain. They do bite though, and when they do, I use lavender oil, straight from the bottle. If there is swelling around the puncture, I apply a cold compress comprising a damp cloth with lavender oil soaked into it. In fact, if you apply lavender oil before you sustain such a bit, it will help prevent irritation and infection when you do get bitten.

First of all, I want to say that I hate mosquitos! I really hate mosquitos!
It's hard to avoid being bit by them. There are still several tips. Wearing white clothes are better than black. Anyway, the mosquitos like me...

I live in the tropics so have a mosquito problem as well as sand flies as we are near the beach. We have screens on all our windows and doors which stops most of the mozzies but he sandflies still manage to get in .I use plug-ins for mozzie's which helps they are really great.Outside i burn mosquito coils and use personal repellent.During the day you should wear white or light colours and dark colours at night and try and keep outdoor lighting to a miminal, also coloured lights are better. We have the problem of dengie fever as well as Ross River fever which are both really bad so it is best to all to try and avoid being bited if possible.

I understand that if you take Vitamin B1 that it will deter mosquitoes. I get really large welts from the bites. I also use Emu lotion with MSM and Aloe in it to and it helps to stop the itching and irritation. You can find it on the internet if you look up Emu.

I do share your disliking of mosquitoes and in our country they are responcible for deadly diseases like filaria and malaria and I live in endemic area.So I take multiple measures to prevent mosquito bites. I use liquid repellants besides spraying mosquito killers like DDT once a while. Another measure I take is I close the doors of house between 5-7pm as at that time lots of mosquitoes come inside home from outside. Besides this I use cream on my legs and hands to repel the mosquitoes.

Hi vesuvius.
Have you tried getting mosquito nets? I am glad I have one. In fact, since I stay in Malaysia where the climate is the same as yours, mosquito are almost everywhere especially in the village (thank God there are not that many mosquitoes in the city, phewwww..), most of the villagers have mosquito nets in their bedroom. This is very practical and can actually reduce the risk of getting diseases caused by the mosquitoes.
Anyway, I suggest you reading the information on what attracts mosquito to human as well as mosquito bite treatments at http://www.mosquito-nettings.com/
I do hope this will help you. Happy reading!

I have a couple of small ponds that are popular for the mosquitos to ly their eggs so I have tried to have as many frogs and birds in the garden to cut down on the population. I use repellent religiously because we also have midges which eat me alive. Once I have been bitten I too use an antihistimine cream. I hate all those itchy insect bites. It is really the only bad thing about summer.

i normally use a mosquito liquitator,Allout, which is very effective in keeping away mosquitoes.I don't prefer coils coz they irritate me by their smell, which is sometimes too strong. Moreover keeping cleanliness around your place also helps in reducing the number of mosquitoes. And don't forget to close windows and doors during the evening..
