Silence, its one of those rare things, especially with loud cars, bused and trucks ripping down the street, dogs barking e.t.c But is it a rare event that you like or do you find it too different and too weird?
I dont like silence too much, the only time i really want it is when im trying to read a book, otherwise to me it just seems too quiet. Which is pretty much why I listen to my MP3 all the time.
So what about you? Do you prefer silence or do you need some noise?

I'm very comfortable with silence or quiet...sometimes while at my computer, I'll have music playing but very softly as louder would be a distraction to me...but then I can go the other direction and sometimes will really crank up the music nice and loud!! I too, don't like any noise though while I'm reading

I need some noise going but don't want too have too much of it going . I like when there is some noise around but would not be able to handle living in a city where you would hear all the business on the streets at night or the noise from neighbors but don't like it too quiet where there is no noise at all as we are seven in our household and to find it really quiet would mean something was wrong .

I like my moments of silence, but I couldn't handle it being silent all the time. I like to get out in the countryside, away from traffic and the normal daily noises, where all you can hear is the breeze in the grass and through the trees, the gentle babbling of water over stones and birds singing. That's not complete silence but it's silent enough for me.
If it was completely silent all of the time, it would be as though the world had come to an end.

Silence is a luxury that most of us cannot afford, Jaywhiting! I was born in the countryside but have lived all my life in the big cities and so, I know both sides of the coin. Whenever I'm visiting my relatives in my native place, I simply soak in the silence! And absolutely clean, fresh air and not the polluted air of the big city. If I had a choice, I'd move permanently, but the logistics are very different out there. I'm a computer engineer and most of the households out there have not even seen a computer up close. That's how it is. It's only my job opportunities and the lure of big time money that keeps me in the cities. Sad, but true.

i live in a quiet environment where the only noise i've heard is my 2 kids quarelling which sometimes I'm ashamed of my neighbors about them being noisy. I used to grow up in a noisy environment in the metropolis and when we moved to a nearby province, i find peace and can do my stuff without being disturbed.
