Can the Colts Repeat?

I'm sure all you Colts fans (as well the Colts haters) out there would agree that it was a great season for the boys from Indy. After a very active off-season and an eventful draft, my question is can the colts repeat? The Pats got really strong in with their acquisitions and I think they pose the biggest threat to an Indy repeat. Especially with all the losses on the defensive end, the backups for the corner and middle linebacker positions will have to step up. On the other hand, the Indy front office have always done a good job with recruiting. I thought it was all over when they let Edgerrin James go but it wasn't so bad after all!! Let me know what you think.

I have made a rule in the past that you never count out defending champions until someone beats them in the playoffs. That being said, sure they can repeat... the question to be asked is will they? They are still the same team offensively. Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison are a year older, but Reggie Wayne has really stepped into the #2 receiver role well. He might be a #1 on some other teams, so it's like the Colts have #1A in Harrison and #1B in Wayne. Anthony Gonzalez from Ohio State will step right in and be comparable to Brandon Stokely as a slot receiver, and Dallas Clark is an underrated TE. It will be upto Joseph Addai to carry the entire load now with Dominic Rhodes in Oakland. That's a question for them, whether or not he can do it... Defensively is the issue. They lost so many starters from last season, but they picked up some good value picks in the draft in Daymeion Hughes and Quinn Pitcock. With the losses of Cato June, Nick Harper, it will be tough. But those players weren't amazingly gifted or irreplaceable. Guys like Marlin Jackson and the incoming rookies will have to step in, but the Cover 2 is a great plug-in personnel defense. They can repeat, sure, but will they? It depends on the teams around them. The Colts have remained in the hunt just by staying, for the most part, still in free agency. Can it win them the championship again? We'll have to see.

From one Indy fan to another, I am sorry but no. New England will be to strong. New England hates losing to Indy, which expains why they were so agressive in the off season. I see them having a winning season but not much more. Maybe a playoff berth is what Indy nation should shoot for. Remember most Super Bowl champions do not repeat. New England was the last then you have to go all the way back to Dallas.

I totally agree. I would love to see them go back but for some reason, I don't see it. But hey, there's always the year after that.

Well, as a Colts fan, I sure hope that they can do it again. I will say that I feel that they let some really great players go. However as you mentioned, I thought that it was over when they let Edgerin James go too. However, during the season as they played, I seen that it they had the talent to go to the playofffs. The Colts only downfall in my eyes is that they are so inconsistent in their games. They never seem to play the same way at any certain time. Plus, the playoffs have always been their downfall. When they made it into the playoffs last year,I was sure that they would lose during the first two games of those. However, it seemed that luck was on their side and that they could pull through. I was glad to see them win as everyone was talking about Peyton's curse and how he couldn't win a major game and thankfully, he has proved all of the critics wrong. He can win a Super Bowl game!! All I have left to say is GO COLTS!!!!

Of course, I hope they do, but the likely hood of that isn't good. Here's hoping just the same.

I f-ing laughed so hard at the Steelers after the year they had compared to our loving Colts this past season. *sigh* It takes more than luck and the Colts proved that. I dunno. I think they could do it. Never know! It was quite an interesting draft a couple months ago. I think I need to pay more attention to it to really have any valid opinion. But I 'heart' Peyton Manning, I know that!

I was born in Indy so my heart is with our boys in blue and white, and I hope they can repeat. Other teams out there have been looking strong though so we will have to wait and see. However I will be rooting for them!Go Colts!

Ok, I am from Indy and I love the colts. It will be a tough season coming up just because of everyones expectations but I think we can do it. If we would of lost Dungy then I would say the opposite. Can't wait for the season to start to see how we play this year. GO COLTS!!!!!

I think that it's a definite fact that the Colts will be able to repeat. As long as they have a decent offensive line and Peyton, they will always be in contention. A lot of speculation is always riding on their D, but I believe the front office always does their best to put the best players on the field that they can while they're still paying our high-powered offensive players plenty of money. So basically all in all, it's how Peyton performs in the playoffs and if a solid D is put together by the front office.
