Marilyn Manson - Anti-christ or clever entertainer?

You have to give it to the man, in spite of all the chaos this one person has stirred up with his songs, he is still around and very much kicking. There are those who blame him for everything, social violence, Columbine, even 911. But in all his interviews, this man has made it clear to all his fans that taking his songs too seriously is stupidity. So is he the Anti-christ or just another metal artist who escaped from the end of the metal era?

Clever entertainer. I think he's highly amused that so many people think he's the anti christ when he's just another musician. I don't like his music (I like metal a lot, but not his kind), but I respect him as a person. I mean, even bad publicity is still publicity, but I find it's ridiculous that people would blame him for Columbine. I think he put it quite well when Michael Moore asked him in an interview what he would have done and he simply said that he would have talked to the two kids and listened to what they had to say because no-one else did. And to blame him for 911 - that's absolutely absurd, how is HE to blame? I know who's the blame for all that and it definitely isn't some musician.

Marilyn isn't even that clever muchless the anti-christ.Ozzy and Black Sabbath started it all in the late 60's then Alice Cooper came in '71 and Kiss in '74.The way I see it he just updated the classics giving them a more modern look and lyrics.Don't get me wrong,I am a fan.I just don't want anybody to forget the founding fathers.;-)

Hate to be nit picky, but Cooper was making albums before Black Sabbath by a year. Cooper 69, Sabbath 70. (I even checked my book just to make sure.) There's also Bowie & Iggy Pop. I make it a point to read the lyrics as I listen to the songs & my opinion is that Manson's very clever in that aspect. I've not seen any shows of his so I don't know about that part of it all. And like you I want the founding bands recognized for their contributions.

I personally think he is neither the anti Christ nor a metal artist..He is however a very brilliant business man and a talented performer....Like others have said, he's no different to KISS or Cooper or Ozzy or all the glam rockers of the 80s...Why ppl nail Manson is beyond me cause I'll tell ya, you wanna talk shock rock, he is NOT it ;-) the band GWAR would be more appropriate of a choice for pickin on...Manson isnt even close to that catagory IMO

I remember seeing an interview with him after he was blamed for inspiting Coumbine and I also thought he was very intelligent and articulate. All the points he made about the political and social climate were well thought out. So, no I odn't think he is remotely the antichrsit, altough Dita Von Teese might disagree!

much as I admire them both, I reckon they're both a nightmare to live with. I was quite sad when they split up though. they were such a dramatic and beautiful couple.

Yeah, I expect you are right. As far as I know she has hinted at infidenlity, and he has talked about her trying to make him into what he could never not be. They were a very dramatic couple.

Well, first of all, he's not metal. More like industrial. Which is why he hasn't dissapeared from the face of the Earth. He's not the Anti-Christ even if he wishes to be. If he was, I doubt he would be sleeping with Cindy Crawford. No, he's got marketing down, makes some decent tracks, and then gets them bought. After all, most of us could make songs that are good enough for the Hot 100, the problem is we can't get enough money to get them on there. Just like most of us could be a good president, we just can't get into office with such a low amount of money.

I definitely do not see him as the Anti-christ. But I don't see him as a metal artist either. I see him as a brilliant mind. He amazes me with the things he says. He is so well spoken. My liking for him has went so far beyond his music.

He's an artist. Besides, it's not like he's taking over the world. His music's pretty dark, and for most of the population..well, we'll leave it at this: it's the opposide of their tastes. Lyrically I think he's brilliant. Nothing I could ever write could be that simple and still make sense..let alone get the vaguest idea of the song through. His music and his preformance is for others' entertainment. Seeing as he ALWAYS gets a reaction, I think he's good at what he does. Plus, seeing his past and all..I'm glad for him. Being so successful and remaining pretty intelligent -- not to mention perhaps, a little sane. I don't think he 'influences' anyone to do ANYTHING. It's the people's choices, and really..alot of the stuff..911..etc, none of them even HEARD about Marilyn let alone listened to him on a daily basis lol. I think alot of people just like to play the blame game.

he seems a very clever and articulate man. like many entertainers he has a stage image, and some people are so quick to brand him evil that they'll beleive anything. I've heard people claim he won't come on stage until the audience tear apart live puppies and kittens thrown to them, I mean come on! I saw him at reading a while back. I think he's an excellent showman, and his persona reflects that.

My now adult son introduced me to Manson's music when he was around 9 or 10 years old. I heard so much grief then for allowing him to listen to & taking him to a couple of his concerts. I had the opportunity to meet him at a book signing and he was a very pleasant & polite man. The show is a show, the music is just music. Children/teenagers who commit outrageous crimes have HUGE issues going on in their lives, far bigger problems than what music they listen to. If parents hear something in a song they find objectionable, it's the parents duty to say to their child "did he just say blah-blah-blah? And what do you think about that? Do you think that's appropriate? Do you think it's real?" Or whatever the case may be. Even shocking music can be an opportunity to talk to your child about their feelings, your values, etc; it can be a tool instead of a wedge. Parents who miss those chances by either not being aware of what their kid listens to, or just banning some things out of hand (not to say that you should never ban something from your home- but you should do so after hearing what it is) are missing great chances to build relationships with their kids.

I think he is an extremely clever man. He is no different from Kiss or Alice Cooper. It is all just a gimmick and is making him rich. He no doubt gets a kick out of the trouble he stirs up but I think once he gets home and takes off the make-up he is probably just a normal man living a normal life.

I don't see where he could be the antichrist. What I do see is a very talented and inventive young artist that has a very cutting edge to him. He is stubbs his nose on the everyday and the stupidity of people in general. As for musicians being blamed for the insanity of those that go about killing, there is only one thing. Get a life please, if I wanted to act out everytime I hear a song by someone I would have to kill, die, marry, etc everyday. Can not wait for his newest appearance and change of persona.
