Dogs doing Human-Like Things

Last night I was in complete awe as I sat there and watched my pitbull staring at a lit candle. He was just laying there so innnocently with his head on the pillow, watching the candle burn. Maybe I'm crazy, but it looked like he was recalling old memories or thinking about something in depth. Does your dog enjoy watching lit candles or fire? Perhaps your dog does other human-like things, what are they?

My dog Buca (the lab) likes to watch TV- always has since he was a puppy...he especially likes the Bubah's- I think because he thinks they are saying Buca....LOL

Oh and since we got our dog Shammy from a rescue shelter- whenever we drive in the car and he sees people it seems as though he is looking for whomever his previous owner was, he gets really excited when he sees certain types of people.... but maybe its my imagination. Sounds like your dog is pretty laid back - and who knows maybe he was contimplating life!

May I tell of human-like cat qualities? I don't have a dog. My husbands cat watches TV. IF she is watching and someone turns the channel she will turn and stare at that person and make a strange sound. She likes cartoons and animal shows, no violence, she reacts with jumping and moving and tail twitching if she is watchng and violence occurs. (Strange as she is his cat and he likes action adventure and horror mostly). We will prove this to people by switching the channel on person when we know she is watching.

For me, sometimes, hhmmnn, most of the time they are better company than human, huh! I really have to say this, they ARE better company than human, hehe. I have a dog who really thinks she's not a dog. She plays with people but not with her fellow dog. And whenever I take her for a walk and sees another dog, she hides behind me, as if really hiding. She's dogophobia, hehe, is there such a term?!

anything is possible. We had a dog and think it's one of us. I do think they do have old memories and think like we do.

I have noticed something similar with one of my dogs. In winter they both love to lie near the fire but my smallest dog, Tessie, just loves to stare into the flames. Even though it is a gas fire you can still see flames and she is really taken with it, you can see when the flame flickers that it takes her fancy.

I've owned several dogs and just about all of them did something human like. The main thing that all of them did was to watch tv and while watching tv they would sit up in the chair or couch just like a person would. Right now, all of my Husky's love to watch any type of movie that has other dogs in it. Their top movie picks would be Snow Dogs, 8 Below, and Iron Will. What can I say but they're biased! lol

Dogs are very interesting Creatures. I feel they are as close to humans in some ways as any pet can be. They do have a side to them that will definately make you think and be aware of things, that is for sure. We owned a Dog when I was growing up that one time my Mom fell off of her bike, and was hurt, and the dog came to us and made sure we did not quit letting him bark until we checked to make sure my Mom was OK. And then my sisters dogs if you say CAR they go nuts, and will make you take them with you so they have to Spell out Car, Drive and Ride unless they are going to take their Dogs with them. But dogs are Great pets. I feel they are definately well deserving of being considered Mans Best Friend.

well its like how sometimes humans can communicate with each other by just the eyes.... my dog does that with me..... she understands every emotion of mine, every move of mine, every mood and reaction of mine... its purely amazing to see her in action..... she's more intelligent adn understanding than any humna being i know....

Well I've seen a few dogs do a few things which we do. My friends dog could actually play football and I don't mean running and heading the ball but playing as a part of a time. (he couldn't do everything) but he made up the numbers and loved it. Hehe ~Joey

Well, that is incredible. Let me tell you about Bandit. He is a 12 year old poodle chihuahua mix. His kindness comes from his poodle side and his loud rambunctious bark comes from his chihuahua side. He can do a great amount of human-like things. He is allowed to sit at the table on his own chair, he drinks out of a small glass rather than a bowl, he gets to sleep on the bed (I would normally be the one to end up on the floor. He eats mostly human food. When he does eat his own dog food, he can only eat it with peanut butter. He is too spoiled.
