Why are we addicted to Reality TV Shows?

My husband was managing his saved time spots on our cable last night and I noticed something. Pretty much everything he has marked, is a reality show. I'm not saying that all we do is sit around and watch tv. We garden, do home improvements, take care of our animals, etc. but when we do make it in the house we always wind up watching some sort of reality tv. So here is my questions, in a world where there are so many channels and things to watch on TV, why do we go the old stand by of Reality TV shows?

Voyeurism. We like to peek into other people's lives. We like to compare ourselves to other people or live vicariously through them. Reality TV let's us do both. Blogs and other types of personal information venues online are to the Internet what reality shows are to TV, so it's not just television either. ;o)
