Though I am not diabetic, but involved with it, I can say that choosing foods wisely, exercising regularly, and reducing the stress level have a positive influence on blood sugar and overall health of a diabetic person. Even decreasing some amount of body weight also keeps the sugar in healthy range. Plan to increase physical activity. Practice early morning walk. Start by taking five minutes walk and increase the frequency gradually. Keep control over temptations, because stress has an adverse effect on blood sugar level. Keep always yourself happy. Make a date and go to a movie, carnival, play. Buy new cloths, go to a sporting events.
The best way to get over sugar level is breathing exercise (PRANAYAM). Practice it in early morning. It is the only miraculous effect over all disease (simple or critical).

I don't have diabetes. What I can do is to point you to the link about diet and diabetes. It might not be what you are looking for though. Have you seen a dietitian who is knowledgeable about diet and diabetes?
