Maybe the preliminary question would be "Do I really need the thing and why?"
It is always best that we are not in debt for anything. Maybe when you don't have enough money to make the purchase at that moment is actually the way to help you not to get involved in something that you can deal with later.

I just read a story about how John Wesley used his earnings. Although his earnings were getting up, his spending was kept the same and it was his donation for God's works that increased. It awakened me that perhaps the better question would be, "Would you spend more if you have more?" I think the heavier responsibility is not how to stay free from debts, but how to use every cent responsibly. When we have more, we are asked to be more responsible.
But I disagree a bit on Wesley's story because God does not prevent us to use more money for ourselves, as long as we are being responsible. I have a friend who is a Zen follower and his thinking is to use worn-out clothing, used items to free him from wanting more of material things. It doesn't work that way, does it?!

I got rid of my credit cards about 6 years ago. They were to easy to use but real hard to pay. I am totally out of debt now. My motto is if i don't have the money i don't buy it. It has not been that hard to follow. I save the money up if its a big purchase then i have the satisfaction of knowing i don't owe on it. Xmas is great now I start shopping in the summer so its not a big financial thing nearer christmas. Then after christmas no bills I LOVE THAT

if it's really urgent, i'll use my credit card. but if it isn't that important to me, then, perhaps, it's not for me to buy it in the first place.

there is this talk radio guy named John Ramsey who says that credit cards are bad and you shouldnt even have one and i t hink i tend to agree with him i refuse to carry one or even get one and when we need something depending on the severity of it we tend to n ot buy it unless it is an absolute need

I agree, if i don't have the money to buy sometihing, then i save till i do or simply don't buy it. Credit card companys are the devil!!! I have never had one and never will!!! I really wish they would stop sending me those credit cards in the mail too, they are just wasting trees!

Sometimes in the great advantage there must be a great danger. that's a credit card. I don't think the companies are devil, tough they usually looks like it.

I really appreciate your opinion.
But I don't think credit cards are great.
There must be a good thing on it, but it's not the great thing. Just pay cash. It's better that credit.

If it's emergency requirement like medicines, food, school requirements, etc. I use credit card. Otherwise, I save the money first then buy it.

My main thing is paying my bills. My bills come first. If I really need something, it's probably not a necessity for me. I'd rather buy formula or diapers or even food for my son, then something for myself.

I would wait until I’ve saved the money. I am trying to avoid debt for as long as possible. In the US however, I think you need a credit card as an emergency backup, and it’s good to use it every so often to create a good credit history. Because you can’t buy a house or car or anything major in the US if you don’t have a credit history.
