How do you discipline your child?

My son is only 11 months old, so spanking wouldn't work and neither would time outs. If he's touching soemthing I don't want him to, I hit his hand and say NO. He's getting the concept of what it means and if I catch him about to do something bad I say NO and he stops and looks around, like he is trying to pretend he wasn't doing anything wrong. I don't know if when he gets older I'll spank him or try to figure out other ways to discipline him.

I believe in both. But, as my children grow older, talking and lecturing is the best methods. Both soft and hard approach.
