Trans-Atlantic traveler with Tuberculosis?!?!

After hearing the latest news about the gentleman who traveled from Atlanta, GA to Paris for his wedding knowing full-well that he had TB, I am outraged. This person knew that he had a strain of tuberculosis that was drug-resistant when he left, yet he left anyway. What about the other unknowing people on the many flights he took? I know that they have found that he had a low chance of transmitting the disease, but what if someone on that flight near him was elderly, in infancy, or immune-compromised? The Center for Disease Control ordered him to turn himself in to the Italian authorities to be quarantined and had black listed him from flying into the US and red-flagged his passport, but he went around this by flying into Montreal, Canada and driving back into the US. His reasons for this is because he wanted to receive the best medical care and felt that the only place he could get that was back home in the United States. Now, if I was in his position, I might have done the same thing - being in a strange country not knowing their policies on infectiosu diseases and their abilities to treat them would have been very scary. My main concern is that he flew knowing that he could infect someone with something VERY dangerous, yet he did it anyway, several times! What if your child was seated in front of him and he just happened to cough? I, myself, have a 2 month old son and if something like this happened to me and my son died, I would go after him for negligent homicide. Do any of you think that this man should be charged for re-entering the US when he was ordered to turn himself in? What about the other people on the flight that get sick - should them or their families be compensated for any damages? If someone dies because of his negligence, should he be charged with homicide? Just a thought!

That is a thought, he was told not to fly and he was told to wear a mask. the man is supposedly a lawyer, and he directly ignored all doctors orders and put many people in jeopardy.

I was not aware that he was supposedly a lawyer. Being of that stature, he should know when he is ordered to stay some place, he should heed that warning. I've also just read that the CDC was not quick enough in getting into contact with Homeland Security to get him black-listed from all flights. I think the man should be held responsible for his actions, whether that be in a court of law or a court of moral judgement. His wedding could have been postponed...what about his wife? He risked infecting her (and I assume she is the one he cares about most) without what seems like a second thought. I disagree with his negligent actions, but I know if I were in his place, I would want to be in my home country to receive the proper treatment - not in some foreign country where I do not know what their quality of healthcare is. Thank you for your response!

You are absolutely right,I would want to be home with the best treatment available ,I would make arrangements to protect other people as well as get to where I needed to be.
