We are living in a critical period with great advancement in information technology and scientific inventions. The world is at our doorstep. Mothers have an even more important role to play today than ever before. External forces are exerting a great influence on children and mothers must be their spiritual mentors. If you are a career woman, would you give up your career to raise your children?

I can't honestly say I'd completely give up my career for my children but perhaps rearrange my schedule so that I was at home more with them. I agree that there are a significant amount of "external forces" out in this growing world today that our children need to be shielded from!

Now a days those "home based businesses" are becoming a joke there is too much other stuff involved to really get into them. Plus most of them want money before they send you the things its all a big scam to me. But if one found a true home based business that fit what they needed I suppose it would be possible, but it is also possible to try to arrange to work from home with your current employer if possible as well.

I think its a good alternative to make arrangement with your present employer.

I think you can try to look for home based business while taking care of your baby. It will be more convenient.

I believe that women can have both. I did for 8 years, but then I retired. My time is now devoted to taking my daughter to high school & to swimming training 6 times per week. I guess it is an advantage for a child to have a parent at home, but it doesn't have to be the Mother. It could be the Father. Some parents don't have a choice anyway, they both have to work for financial reasons.

I think if the job is not demanding, it is possible to care for your own child at home but ofcourse a part time nanny should be hired in case of an emergency appointment.

You have the point there that by working after nursing him for some months will create some saving for his future. But you will equally doing him a good favour in bringing him up yourself as there is a great difference between a mother's care and a nanny. A child under his mother's care from birth will have a very happy outlook and is very attached to the mother.

If you're torn between a career and nursing a child, then you have no choice but to seek for help from your mother or in law. I think that is next best thing for the baby to be cared for by immediate family. The love is still there rather then sending to playhome.

I do not have a career and all my kids are grown but I feel so blessed that I chose to stay at home and take care of my husband and children. I feel I have been rewarded and blessed so many times over choosing this role and only the role of stay at home mom and now stay at home MeeMee(grandmother.)

I guess you are a satisfied mother having cared for your own children yourself and having had to sacrifice a paying job outside. Being a dotting grandma is even more fun. You are again blessed to be able to care for your grandchildren.

It is great if a mother can care for her children full time. But it will also increase the family financial burden if mother go to work.

If you have a very reliable nanny to care for your child a mother should have no worry to continue in her career as it will ease the financial burden.
