How to save ourselves from theives?

Yesterday,theives broke into our neighbours home.Family was out for just a couple of days.They jumped and broke the lock and entered inside easily and did looting of huge gold and money.People in our area are so concerned with this commmonly emerging promlem.As for neuclear families it is even more difficult to live unaffraid and peaceful life.We casually get to know in newspaper about such untoward news.Burgulars have even tortured and killed people obnoxiously... I think these perpetrators preplan themselves and then accordingly they act. How to prevent ourselves from these theives entering in homes, who have no emotions,concerns and heart less people,who can do any thing for money,...? People aren't feeling safe in my vicinity at all.. Any suggestions?

First, you should alert the authorities and let the police handle peace and security issues in your place. If police is not reliable, perhaps you could setup a neighborhood watch in your community. Get a dog. The dog will guard your property well and alerts your neighbors when intruders are trying to get in.
