I'm amazed to find somebody else who wants to walk around the world! We're a rare breed.
How are you planning to do it? What route will you take? Will you bring a pack animal, and if so, what kind? What languages do you think you'll need? I'll stop throwing questions around now and give some details about my plans:
I plan to travel up the eastern seaboard of the US, then into Canada, then sail to the UK, cross the channel into France, then head for Eastern Europe. I'll then go along the southern border of Russia, then Mongolia, then China. From China, I'll head south through Vietnam, then Indonesia, then Australia, then try to find a ship to Chile. From there, I'll head north along the Western Coast all the way up to the Columbia River (Oregon). Then I'll finish by heading South-East across the US to end up back where I started.
I plan to bring along a pack horse to carry a tent and more supplies. I'm thinking the best breed to choose would be mustang because they are known for being hardy and smart, and not being picky about their water.
I want to blog the whole trip on the internet by using a ruggedized laptop with satelite internet access and a solar charger.
To protect myself on the trip, I'm practising with throwing knives (I don't think carrying a gun would be legally possible). I'm also going to go to some self defense classes, though I haven't decided what kind yet.
Budget is my big concern at the moment. Currently I would only be able to scrounge up around $5,000 including what I would need to buy most of my equipment. This is obviously insufficent. Do you think that $10,000 in addition to the cost of purchasing equipment would be sufficient? That's my current goal.
