I feel pity for authors whose books are now being sold at cheap prices at the remote corners of bookstores. I mean, imagine yourself, a writer who have put all that you can, and all that you know to accomplish an entire book and then, later on, that masterpiece of yours will end up just like that.
I don't want any of my books to be in that state. Might just as well not write a book at all. What do you think? Can you imgine your work being put to oblivion? Rather than a piece that would immortalize you, your thoughts for a time?

I don't really worry about whether or not my stuff will become a great seller. Only a very tiny percentage of the books ever written will ever become a best seller, and even fewer of those will become something that would "immortalize" their author.
Instead, I try to think of it like this. If one person reads my book and enjoys it, then the book's goal is accomplished. And if that person enjoys the book, I hope they recommend it to someone else.
Furthermore, with the increasing prevalence of online book sellers, its becoming easier for less-famous writers to get sold. It's quite possible to sell lots of copies of your book and never have a single copy end up in a bookstore.
