I always "shop the sales", rather than go with a preconcieved notion of what I am getting....except for staples. But for example, if sausage is on sale that week, I eat sausage. Aslo coupon clipping and making sure yuo have the discount card for the grocery store you shop at are key.
My favorite part of the recipt is the part that tell me how much I saved with my Shaw's card :-)
Often meat or veggies that need to be eaten in the next 2 days or so will be on sale. Ioften check out those items. With vegies, I will cook them and freeze them, and with meat I will either eat it, or freeze it. This has worked well for me.

That's got to be one of my favorite tips so far. Pretty much we just eat the same thing week after week...the same basic recipes and such. And, I've noticed that our grocery bill does fluctuate drastically from week to week. Sometimes it's higher and sometimes lower. I think it's because they hike the meat prices every week or so, just so something else can be on sale. And, then people like me get stuck with the bill.
I'll try your ideas next time.
Come back and post some more of your tips when you get a minute. I really enjoyed reading them.

Many times our local grocery store will have a 4 day sale which goes from Thursday -Sunday. I try to shop on Thursday night due to convience. If it is one of their special sales, all the better for me.
