Well, 4 me, I PREFER longer responses, because, after all, these are "supposed" 2 be DISCUSSIONS, not just "yes or no", "true or false" questions on a test or something! But, some people's discussions only REQUIRE a 1 word, or 1 sentence response. If someone asks what my favorite color is, all I have 2 say is BLUE! I could add the reasons WHY, which I WOULD do, but there still wouldn't be 2 much 2 say there. This is why I do my best 2 post discussions that ENCOURAGE more IN DEPTH responses.
I wanna make people THINK!

I know u didn't say 1 word responses. I just added that 2 stress MY point that I prefer in depth responses.
I didn't say it 2 be insulting, but YOUR response feels condescending 2 me!

The thing with 1 line responses and that sometimes the discussion requires more detail and people dont fully read the entire discussion to leave a relevant response.
I agree some discussions are easily responded with a few words to get the point across but others do require more detail.

some of us might have problems with one liner responses that has not considered the discussion in its entirety. this is true. although there are some one liner responses which also make sense enough in itself. this points to the fact that, responders must also consider making responses which really convey some sense as regards the discussion being tackled at hand.

It is agreed that brevity is to be preferred to elaborateness . But if it fails to express what you have to say , one -liners are to be discouraged for sure .

Personally, I don't have a problem with one-liner responses. I also do that! Hahaha. But that is only if the discussion is very well detailed and well said that I have nothing any more to add up but just a simple, "I agree with you....blah-blah-blah." I know that it's a don't here in myLot but what more can I say, eh?

I feel the same way Disvachic. Sometimes I don't have to type 5 paragraphs to get my point across. I like to keep it short and sweet while still getting my point across. It's ashame that Mylot doesn't pay you for short responses. A short response does NOT automatically make it a bad response and vice versa... A long response isn't always a good response.

i agree with you. there are times that one-line is all we need to get our thoughts written. there are also some who just talk about anything just to have at least 3-4 lines when in fact they have already stated it in their first line. the quality post then turns into a quantity post.

I agree with you. The "myLot style" asks for at least three of four lines of text. But for some questions, only a few words are enough to express your opinion very well. I always positively rate everyone who responds according to the discussion, it doesn't matter the number of lines his/her answer has.

Here's my take on one-line responses. If you are able to respond to a discussion with one-line, then it is probable that the created discussion itself was a simple online discussion. According to Mylot, and most of us members already know, they want us to create quality discussions, which will draw in equally quality responses.
So, if the discussion was simple, it will draw in a simple response, and technically, that can fall under a 'Mylot Don't'.
You pointed out the guidelines in one of your responses earlier in this thread, and I want to go over where one-line responses falls as a "Don't".
The guidelines state (under Don'ts):
Start meaningless discussions or give meaningless responses to try and boost your rating. Discussions like “What’s your age” will be deleted as well as short responses like “ok” or “no”.
Start game and poll type discussions. For example, discussions like “How old are you” or “Let’s see how high we can count, I’ll start with one”.
It has been my experience that one-line responses are typically what is given to the above types of discussions.
Sure, I could probably respond to many discussions with just 'one-line', but does that constitute quality or simple. Mylot wants us to strive for thought provoking discussions which will bring in thought provoking responses, making for a win/win in the quality department.
For instance, I could have just responded to your discussion with, "Yes, you are right you can make your point in one-line." But, would that constitute quality? Not in my book. I am not saying you need to write an elaborate statement as your response, but if you take the time and look at discussions where the member has put in some effort with their created discussion, you will see equally creative and quality responses, where the communication in that thread continually flows and doesn't end with one response. That's what we all should strive for.

that is a prerogative of the responder. if he/she believes that he/she has made the full point at the discussion with only a few words, then that does it. if hte responder is one who loves to play with words a lot, then so be it. we are all of different personalities here. this is no wonder at all to be taking place. some are always men of few words. i used to be told to take note always of what these kind of people has to say. they say only a few words to mean anything. we have to be alert and be able to fathom whatever may it be that they are trying to say.

I don't have a problem with one line responses but I think my lot does. LOL! You are right sometimes you cane get your point across with just one line. But I always try to put at least three lines in a response. It's just something I have learned from fellow mylotters.

You are right. People write long paragraphs but they are just beating around the bush. Sometimes one sentence could do it. It depends on the discussion or topic, though.

I agree with that, sometimes it just makes me talk too much, give too much detail. But I'm sure we wouldn't get paid for one-liners as much as you would for more. It says in the rules not to use one-liners, so I guess I'll just talk too much, La de da, la de da, and so on.

Anyway, 1 picture is telling more than thousands words no?
So, if you cannot write more 1 line then put a picture to add details to your response!!
...also, i prefer one line than no answer at all!!
