This is very common when you are pregnant and is called a Charlie Horse . You can get it at any time but for some reason is more frequent when you are pregnant . It is probably because the baby is taking from you what he or she needs and you are lacking a certain viatmin .
Try eating bananas more often and this should ease with the amount of them you get as the viatmin you are lacking if found in bananas .
Hope this helps and congratulations on your little one . This is a time to enjoy but often with the excitement of being pregnant come pains that one does not understand and believe me , I know just how much a Charlie Horse hurts . I can still remember the first one I took in the small of my foot and was crying with the pain and my husband was laughing at me because he gets them all the time .

Yes, I also had this when I was pregnant too, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your leg may be sore for a couple of days. I hope it wont be, but that is what happened to me. I am the same, I only ever had this when I was pregnant and it was only when I would stretch when I woke up. It really really hurts! The first time it happened to me, I was almost screaming and my husband suddenly woke up, he couldn't understand me at first, he thought I was saying crabs, lol! Once he worked out what I was going on about, he pushed my foot up and the cramp stopped. After that if I got them again, I would just push my foot up and it stopped again. Maybe give that a try if it happens again. I also tried not to stretch when I would first wake up, but sometimes you don't think about it, it is such a habit to wake up and stretch. Hope you don't get it again.

No I didn't know about the bananas, definitely worth a try. I wish I knew about it when I was pregnant. Sorry that your leg is more sore, I still remember what that felt like and I really feel sorry for you at the moment. Hope the bananas work for you and it doesn't happen anymore.

I think they're called charleyhorse cramps. Don't ask me why, i couldn't tell you. However, the only thing i've ever heard of to help with that, is of course, potassium. Banana's, fish, things like that carry a great deal, and you might try stretching before you go to bed. Nothing too strenuous b/c that might trigger it again, but try slowly stretching up onto your tiptoes for a couple of moments and then slowly back down to your heel. trying that several times might help limber up your calf muscle. I know exactly what kind of cramp you're talking about and it's a horrible pain. i only get them at night, but it's something that will rip me right out of sleep and right onto the floor!!

LOL okay, i replied to this straight from my inbox, so at this point should i mention, i have gotten those cramps and i've never been pregnant, and if i do ever get pregnant then..well..i'll be a very rich man? LOL Anyone can get them. Women just usually get them more b/c those small kicking creatures in your tummy suck out a good amount of your nutrients. I'm just lazy about daily vitamins. So, fish, banana's. potassium (not too much, cause it can be dangerous, too) stretching slowly before bed. i know i just said all of that, but i'm rambling to try to get the image of me pregnant out of my head.

I know the pain is just insane. It's debilitating, and you're thinking, oh my god just shoot me now!! Definitely try the banana's, and if that doesn't help, i'd go to the doctor about it. If the banana's and the potassium don't help, then there might be an imbalance in your chemistry. But don't freak, these happen to a lot of people, and normally it's just a lack of that nutrient. i hope you don't get anymore!!

Muscle cramps are caused by a magnesium deficiency. Before you go out and buy a supplement....especially while pregnant....you should talk to your doctor. You most likely had this problem more easily when you were pregnant....because your body needs extra vitamins and minerals during that time. The body is a amazing thing....because before the baby growing inside you doesn't get what it needs by the foods you eat....your body will take it from other sources available.A good prenatel vitamin supplement will benefit you greatly.....but like I said before....talk to your doctor first.
Well I hope this helps....take care!!

You are welcome Stacy! The only reason I know this....is because I used to get them really bad myself(and I wasn't pregnant) and that is what the doctor told me when I asked about it.I read some of your responses and does this really make baby # 8 for you???
WOW....I'm impressed.....I think one time would have been enough for me...lol.
I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

i havent experienced getting pregnant yet, but as a nurse, hopefully i could help you in some tips when this attact you. these are simple things you could do to prevent leg cramps.. 1. you should avoid standing, or sitting with your legs crossed for long periods of time. 2. take a walk everyday unless, it is contradicted to you. 3. try a warm bath before you go to bed to relax your muscles. 4. stretch your calf muscles regularly. how to do stretch it? strenghten your leg, heel first, and gently flex toes back toward your shins. actually you should immediately do tip number 4 if you do get a cramp.

i had this! terrible. i had the worst pain in my right hip and the cramps used to stem from there. i couldnt sleep and was crying frequently. the pillows helped but i tried an ice, heat pack that is used by athletes. it relieved it somewhat but i had to stick it out until the end. it also went on for about 3 months after the birth. but not as severe but still unbearable. i wish you luck for the last few weeks. the rewards are endless and i would go through it all again for my daughter.

I had that too when I was pregnant with my first child. I was told to drink more milk and get more potassium. I remember waking up with them and just trying to massage my leg and relax it (which is very difficult when it hurts so much). I think it was more painful than labor! A lot of your pregnancy help books, like "What to Expect When you are Expecting", are very helpful.

Charlie horses will take a couple of days to get un-sore. The cramps are from a potassium deficiency. When I was pregnant I was told to eat bananas. As long as I did, no more cramps.
I take potassium supplements now and I don't get charlie horses anymore.

This could just be something really simple like being low in potassium. Try eating a banana or if you don't like bananas, try Gatoraid. I get low on potassium around "that time of the month". It must be a hormonal thing. I, too, get leg cramps. Gatoraid helps a bunch. My obgyn recommended it. Hope it helps.

OH ya! This is just because your baby is on a nerve and your getting spasums from it. I used to get them really bad when I was pregnant, UGH they hurted so much. It'll go away and is very normal and as soon as you have that baby you'll be muh better.
