Do you think people are basically selfish and inconsiderate?

Lets say something is convenient for you, but if you do it then it would be inconsiderate towards someone else, what would you do e.g. A short cut to somewhere requires you to walk through someone elses garden beds. There is a disabled parking spot nearby or an ordinary spot further away. You have just been photocopying and used the last of the paper, do you replace it or leave it for someone else? You've just finished eating in the food court of the shopping centre, do you pick up your rubbish or just leave it behind for someone else to clean up? There are lots of other examples of small things we can do and the choice is either to be considerate of others or just to consider our own consideration. Which do you choose?

I think that it happens very often, people acting this way I mean. They act only for themselves not caring about what happens to those around them, or those that they're actions will affect. I think of my family before I do things all the time, wondering if my actions will cause a negative effect on they're lives. It has caused me to be very restricted with my on personal choices and spendatures, I find that it makes me feel like I shouldn't spend anything on myself. I want them to be happy before I am, to be truly satisfied before I am.

Thank you for your response. I often think that people are selfish in small ways, given a choice between being considerate of someone else and doing something that is convenient for them, they will choose to inconvenience someone else. for example at work today, someone jammed the photocopier and just left it like that.

I think people are basically selfish. So why so many laws and abandons exist. They are used to limit or utilize our selfish nature.

I had a discussion like this not too long ago. It really irks me that people cannot seem to be considerate anymore. I always clean up my own garbage after eating, I say please and thank you. I even say excuse me when passing someone. It is becoming very rare to find people like this now. Most people are so self absorbent or in such a rush, they throw all manners and consideration out the window.
