Favorite Mode of Travel

I just finished booking a flight from the U.S. to Bangladesh. A hefty price tag for cramped quarters hours and hours with little to no leg room on an overcrowded airplane. Despite this, I can think of no other logical way to get where I am going. I have thought a ship would be nice - but I imagine a very long journey and prohibitively expensive. The train or even car for travel is my preferred mode of transport. I really don't care for buses at all. What is your favorite mode of transportation? What is the farthest distance you have travelled?

I don't like to travel by plane very much, but it is a quick way to get to places that are far away. I have been to Australia and New Zealand but I have always chosen to stop off to break up the flight time. It also gives me the opportunity to see amazing places that would otherwise be expensive to get to like French Polynesia on the Air New Zealand routing. The longest flights I have ever done were Singapore to London and London to Hong Kong, 14 hours. I love to travel by train. It is so nice and relaxing as I can sit back and enjoy the view from the window. At night I can sleep in a comfortable compartment. The longest train journey I have done was Cairns to Brisbane, 36 hours. Travel by boat is lovely on a scenic short journey, but I can get a bit sea sick on long voyages. Buses are okay if there isn't train available.

That is one long flight - London to Asia. I am flying this September from Chicago to London and then London to Dhaka Bangladesh. I wish I had a day to rest in London - but it costs considerably more to make a stop. Why I don't know. I am with you - trains (especially in Europe) are great!

my favourite mode of travel is by car. because it is the mode of travel which can take you closest to the regions where you are travelling. If you want to have interaction and mingling with the local culture, then i think travelling by road would take you closest to it.

I love to go by car too - I also prefer to take the road less travelled - and stay clear of freeways. You see a lot more of the "local culture" that way.

for long distance travels, there is no other choice but to take the airplane. it does not have to be one's favorite mode of travel. i doubt if anyone will honestly say that he prefers to travel by plane rather than by car everyday. there are so many hassles attached to it. maybe, if i have my own airplane and airport, i can have a different outlook on it. plus of course an excellent and most reliable pilot then, add still a copilot to the list. yes, travelling by car is very convenient. i will always say that it is the best one if there will be no traffic jams.

I did travel business class on an international flight once - it was pretty nice indeed. But in truth, I cannot afford it. I just checked on a flight I am going in Sept to Asia - $1900 for coach - $10,000 USD for business class. I kid you not, $8,100 difference in the ticket! I could see paying double, but this is absurd.

For long trips, I prefer traveling by plane. However, I also like traveling by train, but I don't get to do that often here in the US. My boyfriend and I also travel by car alot, especially when we go on vacation to the northern part of the state or to New York.

I do love travel by car - you can see so much - especially if you take highways instead of freeways. However, the gas prices have gotten so out of range that we suspended our current summer "travel by car" plans.
