It just seems like people want to run their own lives and they just do not want anything to do with God. That is very sad and very tragic. We all need God...more than we can ever realize.
We live in a very sin-sick world where satan is working hard at keeping people from Christ. We (Christians) need to keep spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ whenever and wherever we can! We need to cling to Jesus and know that no matter how chaotic this world may seem, He is still in control!

A little child may want to have all the candies in the world just for himself. But as parents, we wont give him as he like, because it's not good for his teeth and health. He doesn't really know what is good and what is bad as long as he is a child and as long as he is under our care. Definitely all we want is that the child to obey us as parents and accept what we give them because only parents know what is good for the children. Imagine leaving the child to grow all by themselves and living wildly. Therefore, they need guidance because they haven't seen what the world is really made of. We need guidance.
Thanks Springlady, I thought I was alone. :)

They don't believe in God because the people that believe don't show them how.
In medieval times, people were believers. Most of them were utterly ignorant and their faith was their only knowledge. Technology and education have awakend man's capacity for conceiving a world independent of God. Religious institutions failed completely to appeal to modern man, and believers themselves...failed, too.
For it is through believer's example that people get convinced of God's presence on Earth. Although every new morning brings new confirmations of man's failure in establishing a better world for all human people, although man is at the point to destroy his own habitat and already has destroyed that of many of his fellow-creatures, believers don't show to be different... worse, many times they are proud propagators of human errors and pretend to speak God's will.
God help us!

At least you've spoken through the most honest mind can speak. I agree with you even though it hurts to know that there are people around us (believers) of such attitude (just like you described).
That leads me to say a personal theory - A BAD PERSON CAN SAY GOOD THINGS AND PRODUCE GOOD FRIENDSHIP WHILE A GOOD PERSON CAN DO OTHERWISE. - THANKS VIV!

I think it's the easy access to education and knowledge that's leading people to start questioning the religious beliefs they grew up with. The media didn't lead me to become an atheist; I did so through my own reasoning, and what I've read and studied over the years has supported my position.
I've also read the Bible, and books such as "The Case for Faith" at the urging of religious friends, but I found the latter full of faulty reasoning and logical fallacies.
Disbelief in God is not negative. I guess it seems that way, if one's belief in God is linked to one's sense of morality, joy and appreciation of the world, however non-believers have all those things as well.

Why? Simply because man wants to be his own god. Man always has, and always will, want his own way. When we recognise God for who He is, and realise what He has accomplished for us, we have no option other than to worship Him, deny our own rights to run our own lives, and love and serve Him.
Man does not want to cede his rights to run his own life and do the things he wants to do. If he acknowledges there is a God, he is responsible and accountable to that God. Man rebels. Man serves himself.
I went my own way, pleasing myself, for the first 22 years of my life. I have known, loved and served my loving heavenly Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ, for the last 49 years.
I know what live without Christ is like. I know what life with Christ is like. I am completely satisfied with my life as it is now, with God in control. My Saviour is everything to me and my Father provides my every need.

it is free will that made men worship God. And it is free will too that made men not to worship God. in both cases, people act based on their own free will. I choose to believe.
Thank you Vampoet.

people are straying away from God due to the fact they think it's man made. It's not. I believe the universe and the laws that govern it and everything else in the scheme of things is God. God is what makes the earth turn, makes people live, causes things to die. Total control is what it is and I have no doubt in my mind really. I know he exist as our universe.

i have great respect for science, no doubt about that! in fact, I'm a big fan of science.
but, if Jesus ever existed (which science history proved to exist), then it must be true that God does exist in the universe and in our hearts because of His teachings.
thank you.

It was our advance in technology which created the non believers. It started with NASA and the Space Race in the sixties. This permitted us to discover the Universe.
It was the church refusal to accept those Space discoveries which created even more non believers. The church decided to remain in the dark ages... refusing to move along with technology. In the last 40 years... the church dug a hole so deep for itself than today it cannot come out of it without losing face.
We all know that the old testament was not written by God... but by man. All the church had to do when new discoveries were made was to accept the fact that man had made some mistakes when writting the old testament. And most people would have accepted that possibility.
To reject every scientific evidence is a slap in the face of the whole scientific community. The church is actually calling people "Stupid" for believing in Science rather than God.
It is all about compromises... and the church is not making any. I wonder what God is thinking about all this. I think the second coming will be about cleaning the church which mis-represented God for 2000 years... rather than to punish the non believers.

God has His plan in the strange way not understood by the worldly hearts and minds.
For now, He let us all make our own decisions after He equipped us all with fantastic brain to think and to learn & free will to reason and to choose.
Non believers of today doesn't really mean candidates to enter hell and the religious are not guaranteed a place in heaven.
It is the pureness of the heart to repent that will lead one to enter God's kingdom.

We live in a fallen, sinsick world. Satan is busy at work trying to deceive more and more people and keep them away from God.
We have the media that glorifies the things of this world...temporary things rather than the permanent, awesome things of God.
People want to run their own lives. They want nothing to do with God. That is sad and very tragic! We need God so very much! We live in a very dangerous world...getting more and more so everyday!
We as Christians need to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ everywhere that we can. We need to witness to others and help bring more people to Christ. God has given every one of us special skills and talents and we can use them to glorify God. Only God can make us truly happy and at peace. This world cannot. This world will one day be gone and the Kingdom of God will reign forever. All believers will reign with Him.
Keep spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
God bless.

the three enemies, The World, The Flesh & Satan is in great control nowadays. You are right when you said those points. One of satan's greatest achievements is that to convince people not to believe in God and probably including satan himself because once a person turn away from God, there is no other way he turns to but satan himself. nothing in the middle. So, since satan has little time left, you can imagine his hard work. So, let us all beware!!!!

an open heart & mind may help. stop being in the "underdog" side of life. If one appreciate life, one will understand God much easier. Thanks for your post Cliff.

Technology and mass media. Basically, anything negative travels around the world in a split second, especially if it deals with something that is supposed to be "good". The humans are cynics by nature, and anything that doesn't neatly fit into an equation is rejected out of hand.
Since the "older" laws generally leave out a segment of society (homosexuality, criminals, etc), the mass media with the help of technology attacks anything that might be "old school" or that doesn't support their form of political correctness. Turn things on its head so to speak. The only thing left keeping that from happening is religion. So, its easier to spread the anti-religion disease to skeptics....
If you read the works of Marxist-Lennonist theories, then you'd get a better understanding of the dynamics.
