My five week old kittens have started pee'n on the bathroom floor. The litter box is one of those Buda ones and it's too high for them to get in. Does momma kitty put them in to show them or do i need to get another litter box?

I would get them a shorter litter box. Then put them in yourself, take their little paws in your hand and make them scratch at the litter (since this is a natural thing that cats do after they go to the bathroom they should recognize it as natural & start to get the idea). Also, keep them in their until the go pee or poop. As soon as they go, take them out! Keep repeating this until they catch on!

Yep, that's how to train them! I've done it time and time again. I go in the bathroom, close the door, put them in, and say, "Make wawa!" Then I scratch their paws in the litter. (Make sure it's really clean for them, but show them when you scoop it out that it's poo in there.) Sometimes a good whiff of stale poop is enough to make a kitten get the gist of what you're talking about, but they don't like dirty litter. So then - you'll laugh. I go to the bathroom myself. When they hear the tinkling, they start to get antsy. I pop them in the box, and say again, "See? Mommy go wah wah, now you go wah wah (or weewee). Comon' so-and-so, go wah wah!" You'd be surprised. If you make regular trips to urinate, bring a different kitten with you each time and before you know it, you'll have cats following you to the bathroom to pee and poop right along with you. :)

In my experience, most of the time the kittens have used the liter box without me doing anything but there has been a few times when I had to put them in the liter box. You may want to think about getting another literbox so they can climb in themselves. Also some cats don't like sharing the box. Good luck.

LOL, I think you should be okay with just one more box.

I bought one of those large baking pans and threw litter in there, if they start peeing on the floor now, they will continue to do it for a long time to come, mum doesn't put them in the litter box because this is something they need to learn themselves in the mums eyes i believe, i've never seen them put in by the mum cat. anyway just get something smaller, even if it's a small cardboard box and put a liner in it, then the litter, they'll learn if it's small enough for them.

Yes, as the other posters have said, you need to provide them with a litter tray shallow enough for them to get into. A kitten sized tray.

I agree with everyone else. You need to get or make another litter box for the kittens to use. If you've got an old cardboard box or baking sheet that will work fine. Fill it with litter and show them it and scratch in it. It shouldn't take long for them to figure it out. Good luck with your kittens!

Oh how sweet. New kitties are so adorable. Yes, they need their own way to get inside the box. It's been 5 years since my baby kitty was new at this. I recall it happened very easily though. Imitation of mommy kitty is the norm I believe.

Most kittens in my experience at 5 weeks can't get into most boxes, when they are closer to 8 weeks they can though. I would suggest if they are roaming the house then set up something perhaps on an old cookie sheet with litter on it. Something very low to the ground that they can climb into without a problem. Yes you may have to show them the first few times since they are so young but most kittens catch on quick.

I agree with Kelly, you need to get one that they can get into, they need to learn to go there by themselves, mummy cat is not going to put them in every time they need to go.

get another litter box the smaller one. I dont think that mommy put the kittens there or teach them to go there. Just place the small litter box beside your big litter box, so that they will see the difference and try the small one.try it.
