I'm not married yet. However my boyfriend and I have been together for 3 and half years. We probably will not get married for a while because we still have to finish our educations.
How long did you guys date before you got married? Did you have a long engagement? Do you think age plays a factor in how long you wait before getting married?

I dated my cousin for three years. After i completed my post graduation i got married to him. My parents didn't agree for the marriage. But I insisted to marry him and they yielded to my request and we got married.

Hello Alladipoornima:
I'm not trying to get in your busines, but have you ever thought that marrying a family member is not right. You will probably have some problems genetic wise if you have children. I can see why your parents didn't agree. If any of my daughters did that, I'd have a really big problem with that and I mean really huge. Just think about it.
I hope I haven't made you mad, but please read up on interfamily relationships and see what is said about that certain situation.

We never dated. We knew each other at work and were friends. He came over one night and we stayed up the whole night chatting. The next day he proposed. We knew each other about a month and a half when he proposed and we were engaged 7 months when we got married. Our oldest child was born 5 months later. We were both 23 when we got married. He turned 23 the week after we got engaged and I turned 23 about 3 weeks before our wedding. We have now been married 7 1/2 years, tuesday marks 8 years since he proposed and we have 4 children (7 at the end of the month, 5 1/2, 4 1/2 and 14 months).

I dated for about 18 months or so I believe. But I have to tell you, I've seen marriages last and die with no real basis of age or length of knowing each other. I divorced after close to 20 years but none of it was because of getting to know each other or being too young. He became an abuser. I've known people that married right out of highschool that are still together. Others that have dated for literally years and years and married only to divorce after 3 years sometimes. So I think it's more so a compatibility issue then anything else.

I dated for a year and got married. I got married at 20 years old and my husband was 19. We have 4 kids, 2 boys and 2 girls and 10 grandkids. On june 14th of this month we will be married for 38 years. I do think that a person should wait to get married untill they at least out of high school.

me and my husband dated for 5 years before we got married. we had been together for 4 years when he proposed to me. it was very unexpected to me. i thought that he was never going to ask me because i thought he had a fear of commitment. i thought that we were going to be a couple that just stayed together but never got married. i wasnt liking that idea very much, so i told him that i would never have kids with him unless we were married. i didnt want to have kids with a man who was afraid of commitment, i figured that if he couldnt commit to me alone, how in the world would he be able to commit to a new family member. our fourth year, he proposed, and one year later we got married.....2 months later we found out we were 7 weeks pregnant. yeah, we didnt waste time starting our family. we just celebrated our second wedding anniversary AND we just had our SECOND baby. its amazing that we didnt have children sooner!!!

My wife and I dated for one year. We got married one year to the day of our first date. We just celebrated our 15 anneversary last Saturday 26 May. And still on our honeymoon! It definately makes a difference how long you wait, I've seen people get hitched within a few weeks, their marrage didn't last long. they didn't know eachother well enough to get married.
