The relavance of Saturday Night's Main Event

On Saturday, another Main Event will be on NBC. Ratings have been down ever since the show was brought to life. Is this a necessary 2-hour event anymore?

Well atleast it soften up Cena, and hopefully he will finally loose his championship belt, he has had it too long.

I expect Orton to win the belt from Cena at the next PPV and then Triple H to beat the Legend Killer once this feud with Booker T is out of the way. HHH won't be without the title for too much longer.IMO 7

No, it's not necessary anymore, but I believe, if I am not mistaken, that SNME is a part of the deal that the WWE worked out with NBC/Universal when Raw returned to the USA Network, which is owned by the NBC/Universal parent company. It's a time-filler while Saturday Night Live takes it's summer hiatus. Besides, it's filmed a week in advance and you can get the results if you wanted to find them; the WWE is doing this because they can, not for any particular ratings.

Correct. I understand the historical background of the Main Event. The question was more of a wrestling philosophy standpoint. WWE does tend to do what they want simply because they can and not out of necessity. I know I'll be watching it tonight though

Maybe not but it's not bad to actually watch it every now and then. Reason the ratings are down is because I guess no one wants to watch it and without much promotion, how will anyone watch it exactly?
