How do you deal your feelings for your bestfriend who has a gf/bf?

i have this friend. he's the closest guy friend that i've ever had and we have been really cool friends for a long time. we started of having a brother/sister type of frienship/relationship, but then later on we ended up liking each other. but then something else happened..someone came to his life, and he ended up being with her. He knew that I liked him, but then she didn't do anything about this new person in his life. I kept quiet with my feelings and have been hiding them for a long time...so nothing happened to us..we remained friends, and he ended up staying with his girlfriend for almost 3 years now...but then suddenly i decided and had the guts to tell him how i've felt for so long..and his feelings also came back for me.. but then i asked him to choose, and he decides to be with his girlfriend as of now because he didn't want US to happen righ tnow. i was hurt, but I understood. we still keep in touch of each other now and decided to remain good friends still because I know I can't just forget someone like him. I don't know what to do now because I still have feelings for him. should someone like me who has true feelings for his best friend WAIT for him and hope I'll be with him in the future or should I just seriously try to move on?
