When you make new discussion do you put it in a category?

Last time, I didn't put it in a category. I was still a newbie here but now, I understand that placing new discussions in categories may increase your postings to be seen by others especially if they are hot topics. The more people find your discussions, the more they respond to your discussions. It means that you may get more earnings. It is what I know....
