getting to know your neighbors

we've been staying in our place now for more than 5 years already. we've known almost all people from our area. whenever we see them downtown, we can recognize them and say hi to them. we have been good neighbors to them and they were also good to us. we maintain this relationship because we believe that whenever something happens in our household, these people will be the first ones who will help us.
how long have you been living in your place? did you grow up in that place or you just transferred? do you know who your neighbors are? do you still get to talk to them? mingle with them? do you call on them for emergencies? or do you leave with them your pets? how is your relationship with your neighbors? are they friends? or simply acquaitances?

I was here in our place since birth 22 years now. I know some of my neighbors coz some of them are also my relatives. We also own a boarding house here and every year different students are renting coz we living near from a college university. I used to mingle with them whenever i have time, and since some of my neighbors are our relatives,we also call them for help. They are so good that sometimes we shared each others food/s. It's really good to have nice neighbors.

my grandparents recently moved in to a new house and their neighbours where the neighbours from hell, they where constanly buring leave and rubbish in the garden and confronting my elderly grandparents.
they had a large tall thin tree which over hung my grandparents conserventory and they refused to cut it eventhough it was leaning dangerously in the end my gran paid for some one to cut it down.
It has got to the point that my grandparents rarly go out in to the garden any more

We have lived in our current home for a little over a year now. My fiancee grew up in this area but not the specific town in which we bought our house. We have met both the neighbors on each side of us. We don't have anything in common with them so we are just acquittances. One is an older couple so if we don't see them out for a day or two we will go over to check on them. The neighbor who lives on the other side of us is crabby so we just try to stay away as much as possible.
