Do you get ticked off when a promised repair job is cancelled?

I'm so ticked off I could spit nails...Last month, my apartment building went through an electrical re-wiring..it was messy, noisy, and the electricians had to knock big holes in the walls to do the job...so now it's up to the buildings plasterer to come in and fill the holes...Supposedly, this job was to take place last Saturday...I could have had him come in to do the work doing the week, but since I was trying to settle my SSI Disability problem which meant a lot of phone calls I didn't want anyone hanging about while I made my calls..these were highly private phone calls and I didn't want anyone listening in.
So I was told that last Saturday, the plaster would come around 8 in the morning...now some of you who know me, know that I'm not exactly a morning person...I often don't go to bed until 4 in the morning and get up around 10:30. So last Friday, since I knew the guy was coming so damn early I made the extra effort to go to bed around 12 midnight so I could get up around 6:30...a major miracle for me..so here I was waiting, and waiting and waiting...no one came...it wasn't until 11:30 that the super came by to tell me the plasterer wasn't coming....arrgh!!!
Okay...so now I was told that the plasterer was to come THIS Saturday..so same thing...went to bed early, up early...waiting waiting waiting...Only a few minutes ago (and it's now 9:30 a.m.) I talked to one of the other maintainence men and he said, oh the plasterer isn't coming today, but Monday
I'm so pissed off it's not funny...I mean if a promised repair job is arranged for a certain day, shouldn't I expect it then...I have plans during the week which is why I wanted it done on the weekend--isn't MY time valuable? Am I supposed to drop everything, my plans,my schedule to accommodate this jerk??
Has anyone else gone through this crap as well? Oh and complaining to the landlord does absolutely no good either...believe me I have already

Yes, highly irritating, isn't it? I am not a patient man and waiting for others is not my favorite pastime.
I haven't got appointments changed before (thankfully) but I have got appointments delayed. I make time to wait for those people, yet half the time, they are not punctual. I feel like an idiot sometimes while waiting for them since I am the one paying the money. :P

Oh I can imagine how you feel. Our landlord is good about having someone come to fix whatever the problem is, but he can't tell you what time the guy will get to your house. So you better be ready to wait all day sometimes. I kinda have the same problem in a way. I used to have this one client, before she moved to Florida. Anyway she would set up appointments, then cancel at the last minute. Sometimes whe would'nt even call & I'd show up at her house. The first few times I let it slide, but then it got annoying. I could have been taking care of someone else, so then I lost money. I'm kinda glad she moved, because I was going to drop her as a client.

What I have to laugh is that the plaster was all set to come in on last Tuesday...unannounced...uh, nope...didn't let him in as I had am appointment to keep--so gee, it's all right to want to barge in when HE feels like it, but not when I'm ready and waiting---he actually got annoyed with me...like, duh? Gee I guess we're not suppose to have plans at all

I hate that too...they tell you what time to expect them, like you said and maybe don't show up until 4:30....a whole day wasted

this sort of thing really works me up. If they cant meet their commitments they shouldnt take the bookings. Also i dont like the way they cant give you an exact time, the rest of us have to work to deadlines, why not them?
blessed be

That is extremely rude and I can understand your disgust. Any time anyone makes an apointment, they should keep it unless their is an emergency and it is highly unlikely that there would be 2 emergencies 2 saturdays in a row.
It is like going to the doctor and always having to wait for hours.
Some people just think that their time is more valuable then ours.

I might just wind up doing the plaster work myself...hey...I'm rather handy...I can do it then at my own pace...won't have to wait for anyone...LOL--I do this with paint jobs...I could have the landlord's painters come in but they use that God-awful smelly oil-based paint you want to gag on and just paint everything stark white..uh...I like colors...and my whole place is painted in wonderful colors...and if I feel like painting at two in the morning..Hheheh..why not

I am sorry to hear about problems with your plater guy. I do hate it what workmen do not show up when expected. I guess you cannot depend upon anyone these days. I know now you have to try not to do any of your business when the guy is at your appartment. Sorry again

Oh I know actually how your feeling. I do the same thing if I know someone is coming for something I prepare for it too. Then they dont have the decentie to tell you yesterday. Because if they told you yesterday I dont think you would be as mad because you wouldnt have to get up early today. I hope you get it taken care of soon.

Oh goodness, I am the Queen of Waiting on repairmen. My boyfriend and I moved into his his over 6 months ago and 2 years prior to that his exwife lived here who trashed the place, needless to say nothing is fixed and everything has to be repaired by either a plumber, contractor or electrician. Currently we are now in the estimate stage and have yet to have one show up for the repair stage, although the estimates were great, getting them to come and repair it is another story. We have cancelled dinner plans to wait on them, no show, no phone call, no nothing ... we are still waiting. So when your plastering guy finishes with you can you send him to my place, I have some work for him to do.

That is very insensitive! I can't believe he stood you up not only once (which could be understandable) but TWICE! And didn't have the decency to call! That is outrageous!

Make that three times...he was supposed to be here Monday as well--I think it's because I heard that the landlord is trying to find someone new to work--he must be getting a lot of complaints..also, the few people who have had the work done already said he did a lousy job of it

Oh yes- it's always extremely annoying! My main gripe with such thigs is that repair and delivery men here in the UK only ever give you time slots (morning or afternoon), so if you work you have to take time off unnecessarily! A time slot is either 8.00am-12.30pm, or 1.00pm til 6.00pm, so it's quite normal to have to take an entire half day one afternoon for someone wo doesn't turn up til 5.00pm, at which time you would have been home anyway, and could have saved the annual leave. Equally, you often end up taking a morning off when they turn up at 8.00am and you could still have got to work by 9.00am! There's nothing you can do about it here though - just have to shrug and ignore it!

I also hate it when you have an expected delivery coming your way and they tell you "Oh, we make deliveries anywhere between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.--uh, could we be a bit more specific here...one wastes the whole day waiting...you're holed up in your home afraid to go out for even just a moment thinking the moment you step out that's when the delivery will come and then they don't come by until 5:30--arrghh!!

Oh yes, I know how pissed off you are. I will be showing my fangs when the super knock on my door. This is constantly happening to me too. I don't know why they don't bother to holler or inform me early if there will be some changes in the schedule.
My time is too precious and I can't afford to stay in the house and waited for nothing. I recently had a problem with my broadband connection. I can't remember the number of times that I kept following up with my cable company. The staff kept saying they will do a report about my concern. I waited 6 days before my broadband was fixed. I was practically gnawing on my fangs by that time.

I was going to message to ask if the holes got repaired, when I saw this post. I'm sorry, but I am laughing at you right now. You have just come through one of the worst, most frustrating, most anxious months of your life where you did what you had to do and held yourself together so well and now you are raging about repairmen not keeping their appointments! I knew you would have to blow somewhere!
You're right, of course. It is very aggravating to interrupt one's schedule and rearrange life to wait on someone who not only doesn't come when they are supposed to, but then makes you do it all over again. I hope everything gets worked out soon.
In the meantime...any other unfilled holes in your life?

You must live in Ireland! That is exactly how it is here! Yep, we have been through that same scenario many times over the years and very few are reliable, except the refrigerator repairmen. It seems like the bigger the job, the messier it is, and the more of a hassle it causes, the more likely they aren't going to show or are going to need to rearrange the date. I have a freind who has been waiting since last April to have a phone installed in a new housing development, and the crews are predicting some time in July, which probably really means September!

Mmmm...there's no way your friend can install the phone him/herself? Don't laugh at this--sometimes one has to take matters in their own hands...I happen to be rather handy myself...I know how to change the phone modulars, know how to re-wire lamps...who knows,...I might wind up doing the plaster work myself at this rate

I'd probably be so ticked off that the guy would have to run the other way to avoid my literally biting the heck out of him! That is so wrong for the plasterer and the super to do that to you. Not to mention very unprofessional and inconsiderate. They sound a little shifty and definitely a lot unreliable to me. They need to get their acts together and take care of you and any other tenants that need repairs done.

Unfortunately if the landlord doesn't care then the people that work for him aren't going to care either. The landlord is probably only concerned with his rent money and other than that his tenants mean nothing to him. I have a landlord just like that myself....it is really sad, people just don't care about other people any more. I hope you get your repair work done soon, so you can return to normal living

Mmmm..we don't have the same landlord do we?? LOL
This guy is loaded, has a lot of money..he can afford the best materials for any kind of repair jobs, but instead gets cheap crap --do you know how many times the roof has been fixed?? Fortunately I'm not affected by it as I live on the second floor, but the people on the third floor have it lousy...whenever it rains a virtual Niagara Falls pours down on these people...the roof is then repaired AGAIN--the apartments affected are repaired...then another torrential rain comes and the same thing happens

Yes definately, especially when you are waiting specifically for the repairs to be done, and that you have to put off others things just so that they could come at the specified date, and they don't even turn up or are really late. It ticks me off. Although you could try and reason with them that if they don't come at the time they specified, then perhaps you should get a discount, because afterall, you are paying for their service, and if their work is not satsifactory (and in this case, their commitement), then you don't deserve to pay full fees for the repair job.
