The US has now banned Vegemite as an illegal substance.Do they think we stick it up our noses or bash it? It's a sad day for US/Australian relations, what retaliation, if any, is warranted?

What?!?!!? I don't think the U.S. would ban a food substance just like that... and if it did, it would certainly be big news!!

This issue is now out of date --- a couple of months ago an Aussie had his Vegemite taken from him when entering the US,because of the folate content, the papers made a big deal at the time but the issue blew over. I posted this tongue in cheek.

No. According to Slate.com, the US denies it is trying to ban vegemite. It is concerned about the amount of the compound folate in vegemite; while folate is a vitamin, it's unclear if consuming too much of it can be harmful.
I think this issue has been blown up in the press, but vegemite won't be banned. Something will be worked out.
