So how long do you think Torre has until they pull the plug on him? I am a life long fan and still like Torre, but I just cannot see Steinbrenner keeping him around. My guess is if things don't turn around by late July he is gone.

I think that Joe Torre will step down as manager after the season is done. Steinbrenner wouldn't dare fire him because Yankee fans in New York would immediately turn on him. Torre is under so much stress and at his advanced age, he will want to get away from it.

Maybe the Yankess and Cubs could switch managers. The Yankees could use someone with some fire and the Cubs need someone a little more tame.

I agree. I think it is more likely he will choose to step down than it is that he will be forced to leave. I have always been a huge Torre fan - but he has made me scratch my head and yell at the television more times this season than I would like.

Steinbrenner will not fire Torre for two simple reasons. First, Jeter has expressed his desire to play for Torre and has said that he would not be happy if Torre were fired. Second, I would ring his big fat neck if he did. Torre has done more for the Yankees than almost any other manager in our history. He should be allowed to leave at his liesure, not by getting fired. However, we do need to turn it around soon. I really need to see my Yankees winning again. I guess I am spoiled. It's not easy being a fan of the greatest team ever to play the game.
