I read an article on awfulplasticsurgery.com about a teen who had an extreme makeover. lipo, breast implants, lips, and probably more. Although she did look beautiful afterwards, I saw her before pic and she really wasn't unattractive at all. Whats more is her mother put a second mortgage on their house to pay for it! Personally, I would NEVER do that. What are your opinions?

I really hate that we live in a society that is so focused on physical perfection. I hate that our kids are influenced by celebrities who have all the time, money and choice about "re-making" themselves with plastic surgery. I hate that magazine after magazine tells our daughters that they are only "good enough" if they look a certain way. Having said that, I think that mother was insane to re-mortgage her house to finance plastic surgery on a teen. Maybe the girl wasn't finished growing and changing yet!! It's too early to be reconstructing what nature hasn't even finished crafting!! I'd be more concerned about what is going on INSIDE a young woman who is already so unhappy with her appearance... I agree with the person saying that it would have been a better idea to explore that first. I don't disagree with all plastic surgery... my mother was born with facial deformity due to a cleft palate and hair lip and had multiple surgeries to make her appear "normal" (as her family used to put it!). I think, for someone who suffers from something disfiguring, if they can be helped medically, then all avenues should be explored. But to go under the knife for an "extreme makeover" just for the sake of vanity really upsets me. In the worst case scenarios, these people become "addicted" to plastic surgery because they look at every inch of themselves with a view to what more they can "fix". I'd never encourage that in someone that I love... and especially not if that someone was my child.
