Do you think children should be allowed to watch wrestling matches on TV?

My nephews like to keep on watching wrestling on TV and I personally don't agree with them watching such a violent show. Sometimes, when they're not watching wrestling on TV they're playing wrestling in their room. I don't know why they're so attracted to this show and a lot of kids also talk about the wrestlers they idolize. What do you think?

I happen to agree with you. I don't allow my children to watch wrestling on television. It shows the children to much violence. My children aren't half as violent as my siblings children who do get to watch wrestling. My nephew got his leg busted in two places because another boy tried to put him in a figure four movement.

I grew up watching wrestling with my grandparents. We wrestled around a bit growing up too. I don't think it is bad, but it is up to the parents to teach the kids what kind of wrestling can hurt them, like a choke hold for example. The kids are just letting off energy, but I would say they need to do it outside in the grass.

Hey, thanks for responding! I'm so happy to hear from someone who actually grew up with wrestling. I've always wanted to know the outcome of having to be exposed to wrestling and other violent shows. You sound like you're a decent person, so I guess it could be possible that wrestling could have different effects on people. I think you are lucky enough that your parents brought you well despite the exposure to violent shows. I'm still apprehensive about this though. But given a choice, would you expose your kids to wrestling?

It was only my mother who raised me. My father, if I call him that (whole nother story there...lol) was never around. He was in the Marines and my parents divorced when I was 3.
Anyways, I think I turned out pretty good and I watched all sorts of shows from scary to violent. Back then TV was no big deal, we were taught most of it was fake. Same as video games.

how old is your nephews? i have nephews who is 6 years old and 5 years old and watching wrestling had affected them so much. they are growing like wrestler and hurting each other. when they play with friends they end up hurting their playmates and they think its ok. if your nephew is old enough like 10 years old maybe it is okay to let him watch as long as you are going to explain that it is just a sport like basket ball or boxing. but if he is too young i think it is not healthy to lewt him watch this kind of sport

my nephews are 5 and 13. this just worsens the situation because the other one is big enough to inflict pain on the puny figure of the younger one. Yeah, I think you're right, it could be okay if they're both older. But since the other one is still very young, I don't think they should be allowed to watch. Thank you so much for your thoughts on this.

There are some children that are able to watch wrestling without feeling the need to reenact what they have seen. While there are some children that just can't seem to control themselves after they have watched wrestling. My fiances nephews act like morons every time they watch wrestling. Its as if they feel the need to pound one another. Personally, I don't allow my children to watch any kind of violent shows.

At some point, my brother got so hooked on wrestling, his grades failed. He knows everything and anything about wrestling and favors this more than his lessons. He got grounded from watching TV though. I don't see the point in letting kids watch wrestling. It's violent and you know it's really not true (well, UFC, as per my husband is real, but i find it too violent). No offense to wrestling fans, but I;d rather have my brother watch the kind of wrestling that's a sport, the real one or none at all. I'm just not into violence.

My girls watch it, they are 5 and 10. I watched it growing up with my dad. It was our father/daughter time, lol. I'm 30 now and see wreastling for what it truly is and that it is a man's soap opra. My husband agrees that it's all scripted and fixed, and we tell our kids that. That unless it's not on the news its all fake. Most men and boys love it so much just like most women love soaps. Also honestly, most men like watching to see the half naked women running around, lol. Same for the women watching to see the half naked men running around, lol.
