Taking out Shukaku.

When the Akatsuki removes Shukaku from Gaara. What does Zero, North, South etc. means? This came out from the fingers of the statue , one of the akatsuki, summoned.

they don't specificlly mention exactly what the ceremony is doing. but that statue is what holds and contains the tailed demons. They do mention in latter mangas that they need to contain all the tailed bests in their proper order or that statue they have will break and the chakra will be lost (or the demons will be set free, which in that case the world is screwed again)

Are they killing Gaara or Gaara will still be alive after the ceremony?

well, thats a MAJOR spoilers...they did already mention that after taking the demon, the host will die. which is pretty much what that process that they do is....but i'm not going to be a party pooper and spoil it for all those who haven't read the manga...if you REALLY wanna know either read, or msg me and i'll tell you.
