Is Hacking a profession or illegal?

Now hakers are creating lot of problems in the internet.But hackers are employed by different firms to crash their rivals website.Different hacking online certification courses are there,to produce hackers.Is it really illegal?.

I think it depends on how you use your skills, if you're a good hacker using your skills to help there's no problem. If you are an evil hacker using your skills to harm others, you should be arrested.
