it irks me sometimes when we hear reports of the peso getting stronger against the dollar, to hear others say that it will be bad news for those working abroad. i say, we focus on what is good for our country. it is true that the remittances given by OFWs are invaluable, but looking at it in the long run, getting a stronger peso against the dollar is good news! think of all that we'd be saving in terms of loan payments.

Actually i'm torn between being happy and being sad as I am working here abroad and we pay for our house Php35,000+ for the developer. It took me more dollars to buy Php 35,000 pesos and it affects us because we don't get any increase on our salary and the value of our money is the same. This will be a good news if the dollar went down and at the same time the prices should go down. All i hear on the news is that peso is winning but the people are losing.

that's what puzzles me about most filipinos. they brag about our country's economy getting down and down. but when they hear that the economy's getting better (ofcourse, stronger peso is always a result of this posivite thing), they give out negative reasons and gossip and open lots of negative issues.
why can't we just be happy with the good things happening in our country? and why should all people be right all the time? can't we be just contented and happy rather than bragging to much?

I think for every rise and fall in dollar exchange there are those that have gained and there are those that loses from this event. I guess if you would ask that from an ofw and an exporter they would not want that. But if you would ask that from an ordinary pinoy it wouldn't matter. Its a matter of economics not all are benefited from it there is someone that loses and someone that gains from it.

i agree, for now its difficult for the poor to feel the effects. but in the long run if this (strong peso) keeps up, we will eventually feel the effects, from the rich down. it may hurt the upper class like the exporters and such, but i believe it is something that they can overcome. in the long run, a stronger peso, coupled with sound economic investments, will do us a lot of good.

The problem of the strengthening of the peso is that it is not felt by the common people. It goes up against the dollar yes but it is a bad thing that happens because prices never goes down and only the MBC and other business tycoons gains but the common peoples lives never change still struggling with their meager income, still jobless and no salary increase.

The peso is not getting stonger,it's the dollar that weakens.Think of this ,if the dollar weakens the peso gains, but it has no impact in our economy because when the portfolio investors decided to withdrew their money together with the profit,we are at loss. That is the reason why our economy can not take off.The government of Cory,Ramos, and now Gloria the most deceitful leader of our country are fooling us.Please don't be fooled, the American investors are fooling us,the media are fooling us too.I don't blame the mainstream media because they are bought to make us believe in all lies dictated by the American business. We should be using currency control, not the floating exchange rate dictated by the I.M.F.-WB which is controlled by the American business.Don't you know that the U.S.A.is the biggest borrower of the I.M.F.-WB,think and be critical of those facts.

You are right that you should focus on what's good. It is good to have a strong home currency.
Well, to an extent.
You don't want your exports to get too expensive too - when that happens, others will not buy from your country and your merchants will suffer.

In terms of loan payment, getting a stronger peso is good. Unfortunately for the export sector, strong peso means less income. This means that our products will be expensive abroad. If our export products become expensive then buyer of our products will decrease. If that happens then fewer dollars will reach our country. That means, we will have fewer dollars to pay for our debts.
That is what I think. Peso-dollar exchange rate is not the sole basis of the condition of our economy. Stronger peso is bad for the export sector. Stronger dollar is bad for the import sector. There is no win win scenerio on the dollar exchange rate.

the effect of the stronger peso is a decrease in interest rates in loans. however, poor people like me cannot avail the benefit of the stronger peso, it is the wealthy who can make bigger and biggest loans and enjoy the lowered interest rates as well.

should we really be happy about this? i mean, we let our fellow filipinos suffer abroad just to make the peso stronger. and then the government says they are the modern heroes.
i think its just a plain excuse for the government to let the people do the dirty work which is supposed to be their job. i mean, it's their responsibility to make our country better. they shouldnt pass it to the people. although i know we should contribute. but there are many other ways we can contribute other than to be away from our families.

I sigh everytime i see the exchange rate for dollar to peso going down because that would mean i will be getting less than i expected from my online money making which pays in dollars.
Even if the peso seems to be getting stronger, i do not see any change in the lives of our middle to lower class people. Salaries are still the same for years, but the prices of goods are continually increasing. Its a sad state.

Are all of us here Filipinos? WHooo! Well, im proud that pesos is strengthening. I may not be a fan of GMA,but, at least, she did good, in a way, for the economy. And ask ourselves, it was during Erap's time that the value of peso started to fluctute really really big. from 15 pesos, to 35, to 50. That is something.
