Anyone heard of Ask MetaFilter?
It's a massively better version of this format! Thus, why is there a need for *another* type of website like this

The easy answer is that Ask MetaFilter's not free and there's a one week waiting period before you can ask or answer a question. Also, Yahoo has a heck of a lot more visibility than MeFi.
As for the format, I agree that MeFi's better, but I'm willing to give Yahoo! Answers a chance. They're still in beta... maybe they'll make some improvements on MeFi. (Maybe not.)
