Are you a pessimist or an optimist?

I like to consider myself an optimist because I see the brighter side of things. Usually when something bad happens that I dont expect it doesnt usually faze me or distract me. I look at the positive aspect of things and try to focus on that because according to me life is too short to be concerned about the bad things. I feel that if you focus on the bad then you will dwell upon the negative aspects and forget about the goodness that comes from the unexpected situation. SO i wonder if you guys consider yourselves optimists or pessimists.

im an optimist . . i never hold back when i want to be happy the thing is being sad just holds you back and thinking negative frightens you sometimes. i guess thats the way i see it .. but being optimistic sometimes makes you quite naive :)

i think its true that being sad or dwelling upon something will hold you back from moving on.. and i have to agree with the fact that sometimes only focusing on the positive side could affect you negatively because it makes you naive and you forget about the other side of things.

I'd carefully style myself as an optimistic realist.
Optimistic: beause I prefer to think the best of people, things, etc. until something obviously goes wrong. Then I try NOT to draw generalizing conclusions, like "You can't trust in people", and so on.
Realist: There is no reason to expect that life will alwways give you the best treat. Usually there will be problems at the one or other end. That's just normal! So when they show up, I keep trying, and look out for solutions, instead of caressing the problem. But there do exist situations that can't be remended. When making this experience, I learned how to to throw away the pieces and start anew. C'est la vie!

beautifully said.. i think your optimistic realist view is very correct. I also try to see the best side of people but you cant really put your trust in just anybody. It takes a little time to develop trust for me because I am afraid of being betrayed by someone i just happen to trust. So I think youre right. Theres always going to be good and bad things that happen and like you said its good to move on without caressing the problem! well said!

Generally I'm optimist, I try to see everytime the good things of life, but there are periods where this is very difficult.

thats also true..sometimes there are situations where seeing the brighter side gets difficult but its all about getting your mind off of such things and to divert your attention so that you arent hurt by it.
