Help! I have a job interview tomorrow with a really good local company. I would really like to get this job, but I think my chances are slim. You see, I'm 57 years old with no formal training. Simply work experience. How can I make them choose me, if it is meant to be? How can I build myself up in their eyes where they will know that I would be a great asset to their company?

Hi mollylh. I know you must be very excited and you must be very nervous about all of it also. I will say a prayer for you to get the job. I don't think you will have any problems getting the job because you sound very intelligent. I am sure they can tell by the way you talk and need the job, that you would do a very good job for their company. I always think my chances are slim at everything also but if it is meant to be, you will surely get it. I would just tell them how much of a hard worker you are and you know that the company would not regret hiring you.

I think that the most important thing for you to do in order to project the image of you that you desire is to remember that work experience can often be more helpful than some formal training.....and to remember that you have a valuable service to offer them...you will be a wonderful asset to their company and they will be lucky to have you.....
Good luck with your interview....

First let me say congradulations on the job interview. This is the first step. I would go in their tomorrow with a very positive attitude. I would tell them about all your past work experience, don't put yourself down by saying I have no formal training. Tell them all about your past experience and your work history. If they ask why you have been without a job for _ period of time, I would say I am being selective as to which companies I apply and you got on the internet/and friends have told you what a GREAT company that is to work for, etc. Build that company, and yourself up.
Now listen, I will say a prayer, but don't get down if you don't get this job. What is meant to be will be and if you don't get this one, there is another one out there wanting for you. I know you WILL be a great asset to any company, so if they don't select you that is their loss. But I would not mention my age, and I would just tell them about your past experience.
Please let us know how your interview goes tomorrow! Good luck and my prayers are going out to you.

Congratulations! Relax, you'll do fine. Go in confident, stay positive in all of your responses and since you know the company already you'll be able to share that knowledge in the interview - in way you can help them do the job even more efficiently. You have years of training and that is far more valuable than formal education. I'll say a prayer for you too. I'm also job hunting so I know just how important tomorrow is for you.

I've been out of work for a month and it wasn't planned well but at least I currently have savings to use. I'm at the point though where I will not be selective I think, I'm also considering relocating if that's what it takes. I'd rather not though, I have a call to make tomorrow that will hopefully lead to an interview locally in the field I want to be in. This is my second application to them, lower job this time, but if I get it at least there's room for advancement so I'm still very interested. Thanks for asking.

How long have you been job hunting? Are you in a position where you can be "particular"? You know, are you going to have to just take anything that comes along, or are you going to be more selective this time around? I can sort of be selective, yet my bills are starting to pile up! I've got to remember to stay positive. And I have to keep telling myself, if this wasn't meant to be, then so be it. Something really good is out there for me!
