How does your parenting differ from the way that your parents raised you? Or do you pretty much have the same style as they did?

My father was the disciplinarian, and being from a military background, we were expected to jump to when called. We were taught to address our elders by Sir or Mam, and don't even think about back talking....well, it just didn't happen. Daddy spanked us...and I have to say that I deserved each and every one! LOL! I am no where near what my Dad was, but I do think that children need discipline coupled with love. I don't think that spanking is the answer, but I have given one of my children a little swat just to get their attention. (something that just tears me up...they don't even remember it 2 minutes later)

I'm pretty much the exact opposite of my parents when it comes to raising my kids. My parents were both in the Marines and they were very strict! I'm not very strict at all. You would have thought I would have learned something. I mean, I turned out alright (I think).

I try a little different from my mom. I was always scared to talk to her about anything so with my daughter she can talk to me about anything and we are closer.

My mom was a very young mom and did not have the maturity or the patience to deal with her children very well. She loved us immensely, but just did not know how to effectively parent. I am much more patient and understanding with my children, yet I know when to put my foot down too.

I try really hard to be different from my mum. she used to yell at us alot and was always stressed out, so with my boys i try to take a deep breath and not get caught up in the heat of the moment and start yelling and screaming. doesnt always work though! but most of the time i remind myself of how i felt when i was a kid
