Is downloading wrong?

I'm a HUGE fan of downloading, infact I'm convinced I am addicted to it. I can't stop myself even if it's stuff I don't really want or need, but I'll get it anyway because I can. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with it, not just because it benefits me, but also I don't think it inteferes with the sale of legitimate products. If someone cannot afford a certain product they wiil not buy it, it's that simply. If they can download it they'll do so and use it, or find an alternative product that is free to use. And there are things I will buy and not download because I prefer to own them, so I don't think companies are losing much from downloading.

i think that downloading songs on the interent is a good and bad thing to do, yeah i do it myself but in my country there are people that are getting caught by doing so and they are being fined about £7,000 plus being put in jailfor 3 months. If any of you guys do download then just be safe about it ok, as i would hate to see one of you guys get caught.

yeah that did happen in the uk and in salisbry to be precise, yeah there is a software that you can get to bounce off your ip address but im not sure what that is to be honest, but if you do find it could you let me know thanks. yeah it was all because of downloading, well downloading wasn't really the problem but it was to do with the copyright laws etc....

Ouch! That's awful, just for downloading? That doesn't happen to be in England, does it? Better watch myself, then. I don't want to do prison time just for downloading. I think there's something that you can put on your pc to bounce your ip address, so I'll have to get that. Thanks for the heads up.

I dont think there is anything wrong with downloading. i use to download a lot, i think i download in GB's in a month. well when you come to know about a software, and you want to try it first then you must download its trial. if you like it, go and buy. simple it is what i do.

I agree, and if you have the money then you should buy it. But if you don't then downloading is the best thing.

Lol, the same thing has happened to me also. I used to download films religiously, but restrictions on time and the fact that the films out nowadays aren't that interesting, have cut me down to just downloading tv shows that I'll just keep for future use. I love the fact that there are very generous people out there who will upload for hours and hours just so people like us can download from them, and they get nothing out of it. That's a community we should be rewarding. There are still nice people out there. I've just downloaded a dvd ripper that will allow me to rip some of the things I bought on dvd that I haven't seen anywhere available for download. I will be uploading these files so I can share them with others. You have to give back, right?

i am also fond of downloading files from the internet. i haven't seen banners in websites of companies saying that they are losing much because of downloading. i don't think that it is also a form of piracy when you download files only for yourself and your families and friends. but maybe it's already a form of piracy when you sell files you have downloaded. people will continue to download everyday and i will too. good day and enjoy downloading.?

Exactly my point, the companies aren't complaining about the loss of business, so why do people make such a fuss about downloading? Obviously, as you said it would be wrong to then sell what you've downloaded for a profit since you don't rightfully own that product, but if you're just using it for your own means, then why not?
