I am willing to get out from windows stuff, and have seen many people saying that i can install Mac os X if my processor supports SSE2 or SSE3, if thats true, is it worth the idea or its better to install Ubuntu, since it uses less resources, and also have many good programs.

Recently Apple shifted its processor to Intel from Motorola based processors. Since after that Mac Os is much more compactable with common PC . But still Mac Os works better with Apple based computers. This is because of the unavailability of drivers for most hardwares used in a PC for Apple Mac OS. So it is better to use a Linux distro maybe Ubunto, opensuse, fedora or any other if you want a change from Microsoft windows platform.

Since you said beryl I think you are interested to have a system with all those 3d eyecandy. Beryl requires a decent graphics card for all those effects but requirement is not as high as Vista. So if you have a decent graphics card and at least 256 MB Ram in your old system then you can have Ubuntu with beryl. Other Linux Distribution like opensuse and fedora also provide these effects (I personally prefer and use opensuse 10.2). If you don't have those system requirements for running beryl then you can just have ubuntu without all those effects.
