I use Toshiba and I like it. Before I bought my Toshiba I thought about things I wanted to do with a laptop, then I defined a required spec. Later I looked at my budget. I chose it because at that time Toshiba had a good promotion :-) Finally you should know when your laptop market usually sell new laptop models. The period before issuing new models, some stores have some brands on sale and you can choose a high performance one with less money.

Yeah, toshiba is a good brand. I am using one too. A lifebook... small, light, compact and powerful.
Before you buy one (laptop) you should consider several factors:
1. weight / size: laptops comes in different weights and sizes. If you can carry a heavy one then go for it. Usually heavy and big laptops costs less.
2. Usage: You should consider the extent of usage for this laptop.... if you are to use it with lots of graphic for gaming or presentation, or maybe you just need something for your database files or worksheets.
3. Warranties - Its important thst you consider this for you will always be mobile with your laptop. Therefore it should be warranted
The one I use for almost 5 years now is still very much functional and reliable. I carry it in my backpack most of the time without being conspicuously having a high tech laptop with me.

It depends on what you what to use it for that will determine what kind of laptop is best for you. I bought a Gateway laptop with a gig of RAM and a Core Duo processor back in October and it has been fantastic. If you do a lot of video editing or take a lot of pictures something like this would be good for you. If you just needed it for basic tasks then you wouldn't need as much.

Go for HP pavilion dv5000 or dv2000 series, will work fine. I am using an HP laptop for more than a year.
