I got the job! What was your first “real” job?

June 4, 2007 10:08am CST
I’m very excited at the moment; it will be my first “real” job. It’s in a photography shop where I will be doing everything from processing films to selling cameras. I’m really pleased as my ambition is to become a photographer and this will be a great opportunity to learn more about the business. I had a proper interview on Saturday and I got the call today. I start on Friday and it may be sad but I’m really looking forward to it. So in the spirit of discussion, what was your first “real” job?

Since I was in college, I've already been working for my father. I helped manage our net cafe and do some office work for him. So the real or first job I consider (finding on my own) is when I worked as a call center agent in Cyber City Teleservices. Right now, I'm working for my uncle in US. It's more of an outsourcing work where our company do all the work or what they call subcontract.

Ah well good for you! My little sister has just finished a photography course at college and isn't too sure where to go now! She's had a few people ask her to do some photo portraits and a few other little bits and pieces. There really isn't that much around our area but I'm sure she'll stumble across something soon enough, she's good at it! All the best to you in your new job linzmcwilliams :0)

My first job: Consultant in one of the UN Offices in Zambia. As an Asian man with no prior international exposure, it was a big decision to go to Africa alone but I ended up staying there for 2 years, for a humanitarian intervention in refugee camps. It was truely unforgettable experience.

WOW..! Linzmcwilliams !! congratulations..! You even I have the same dream to be a phtographer ..! But its something like a voccational study here!! So my parents don't wnat me to be in it as they think it will get me no where in my career!! So I am persuing for engineering these days!! As finally I finished my highschool!! Thankgod..! Till today I don't have a real job and I even don't want to have it until I get graduated !! Cause I belive If I got the addiction of making money once it will take me away from studying ahead! So I am waiting to get graduated first! Because I belive that making money is also somekind of addiction...! But I am looking forward to get some part time jobs!! You have fun.

Congratulations linz on the new job! Working in a photography shop is just up your street, perfect for you if you want to be a photographer. You will be able to learn so much there both about cameras, and the processing side. My first job was as a shorthand typist for an insurance company (long, long time ago now). I remember being very nervous at the thought of having to answer the phones to talk to customers!

Hello linz. Glad to hear that you will start working on a real job. It may serve as a good learning ground for you to hone your knowledge in photography. I can understand why you will be this hyped up and sad at the same time. We always experience a mixed emotions and feelings in facing a real job. My first real job was working as a Dental Hygienist in another country. It took me a month before I was able to adjust to my work surrounding. Considering that I need to use a different language and learning new techniques everyday. But it was worth my effort and time.

After graduation i work in Central Negros Electric Cooperative it is an electrical company that supplies power in entire island. My work there was then a customer service we were the ones who receive complains and comsumers call us to ask for the schedule of power interuptions. My work is very challenging there since we are in the emergency unit like for instance we one particular house doesn't have an electricity they will call uys for trouble shooting and that they need a lineman, some consumers are very rude they shout us and want their elctricity power to get back as soon as possible they would even shout to us that what kind of emergency is that, well we explain to them its a case to case basis. Ofcourse our supervisor will serve first the several block out than a house alone that in that place they were only the opne with no power or we prioritized the wiredown since it can kill a life because it is a live wire in the streets more life will be endangered... Some consumers cannot understand it. We have more than 100,000 consumers there are instances that we encounter several block outs, wire down, no power or the like. We also receive calls for those power had been disconnect due to late payments, so after they pay we send linemen to them. So if ever you have electrity problem you may report that it was a awire down so you'll be the one to serve, lol.. And you can hear them complaining that our company is very fast in disconnecting the electricity but very slow in getting it back. Again we explain to them we can only serve everybody one in a time although we have several lineman but not enough to accomodate all at the same time. I love that job it was very challenging you face different people with different moods and personalities and my co worker are very friendly especialy our head... I am truly proud that i was been a part of that prestigious company... but since it was only contractual i left...

Hey Congratulations Linzmcwilliams!!! I hope you will have job satisfaction with this job. in my view, people working without having job satisfaction are the most unhappy people. Do your duties sensibly and with interest. I had joined SHRINATHJI HOSPITAL, as a Medical Officer in year 2002 and worked for about 6 months. This was the first job for me.

I have no idea who you are but I am so proud of you! I am a photography student just finishing up but the sad thing is now I am planning to move to BFE! =( YOU are going to LOVE that job. Take it wherever it will lead you, you will not be disappointed! I've worked at a ton of jobs but I wouldn't give any of the companies credit for calling it a "real" job. You're way ahead of me!

My first real job was in a semiconductor company. I was just a student in college that time when the company hired me. It's hard to study and work at the same time but it's all worth it. I ended up being an engineer in that company. It just proves that if we really strive hard then we'll get the fruit of our labor in the end.
