Situation: You are walking on a road with a bag containing cash and some other items in it. Somebody grabs your bag and runs off with it. He is already 10 feet distance away from you before you react to the situation.
What is the best way to get back your bag yourself instead of taking help from others by shouting thief...thief?
Think logically. Don't give answers related to physical power please.

Chase him... because if he has already been running long enough to get ten feet in front of me and I'm just starting he is going to tire out and I will catch him.

Nice analysis. But I feel they are used to these kind of situations but not us. I'm looking at some solution which doesn't involve any physical over powering.

Remembering the person's profile - Yes very important step.
Throwing a stone - But still no guarantee that you will find a stone or some other object to aim at him. Useful only if he is scared of getting hit by these small objects.
